Ironically, Tidal Gardens just screwed up and sent me the wrong coral. I got a Rainbow monti (which I already have a colony of in my tank) instead of a Rainbow Goni. Now I get to see how they make it right.

So far it seems like they want to give me a refund or include it in my next order. I haven't decided how I feel about that. I understand they don't want to lose money on shipping, but I also don't want to have to pay shipping for something that I already bought.

It would have been cool getting a free coral (the rainbow monti) if I didn't already have it.


Just to follow up on this. I was planning on getting either a Dragon Soul Torch or a Holy Grail in the near future. So I ordered a Dragon Soul from TG and they are counting the cost of the the Rainbow Goni towards the free shipping.

So in the end I'm getting a coral that I wanted to get a little sooner than I had planned along with the Goni that I ordered. A bit of a compromise on the shipping.

I'm glad it worked out. I usually have a good experience with Tidal Gardens. They give their corals time to recover after fragging and shipping is prompt.

They stopped responding to all my emails I’m filing a fraud claim with my bank today. Over a month and nothing has shipped 😡

This is too bad and I hope John can get all of this sorted out? It may be the case where he simply can't meet the demand, but one would hope that a simple correspondence goes a long way in securing your customer's trust.
For those who are looking for smaller crocea clams, reach out to Elliot at Golden State Corals, he has some nice croceas in, some with teardrop markings (but they are crocea, not the fake noae).

I was able to speak with John once after making an order that was sent, but incomplete. That initial order was in April 2025, and also had a Scott’s Fairy Wrasse on it that was never sent. I was very happy to speak with him, talk reefing, and was delighted with him following up on completing my order. I was told the Scott’s fairy wrasse went carpet surfing after an employee left the tank uncovered, but that I was next in line for another. I was super stoked to receive three beautiful clams as extras, free of charge on the order.
As of today’s date, I’ve called a half dozen or so times and sent some emails hoping to get information. Nothing.. I would agree with some prior noted speculation on the business and its operations. I realize the fish I ordered is not so readily available, however correspondence to follow up with the wrasse after 8 months would be a nice point to fulling customer service. I don’t like throwing people under the bus, but this thread came up when I google searched the business. Whomever left the tank cover off my purchased wrasses tank can take some of the heat from me though..Cover those tanks, and lay off that primo Sun and soil grown stuff if you CRS.

I made the mistake of ordering a second time. No return phone calls after making the first order, then out of the blue he called and apologize, nicest guy on the phone. I'm thinking ehhh mistakes happen after receiving my first order so i placed a second order. It's been months since then, and it will be my last order from John, no but or if or i'll throw in free this and that.

I had to file a claim with my bank, but they did refund me. Someone from Clam Mania finally reached out after three months, but by then I’d already gotten my money back and bought clams elsewhere. He might be a nice guy, but you can’t run a business where you take people’s orders and money, then go completely silent for months. If he isn’t capable of properly handling and fulfilling online orders, he should just remove the online sales option from the website and stick to doing the shows.

Horrible customer service. I placed an order on 1/4/26 and never received it. I tried to contact them via phone, email and text multiple times, no response. Do not recommend spending money here as you will not receive your package and will be ghosted for weeks. For anyone saying he is reputable and a good guy, that doesn’t cover for horrible business practice. When there are multiple forums of people sharing similar experiences, then clearly something is not right with the business.

I placed an order for a claim on Jan 20 and absolutely no communication. It is past the ship date as well. I have left multiple voice messages and completed their online forms - they have not responded to any. I now have my credit card company working on an investigation and hopefully I can get my money back.

Claim Mania should be put out of business!

I have been irritated if I allow my mind to start thinking of the situation that involves clam mania. John is nice if he wants to update you with bogus lip service and fulfill you with untrue promises. I ordered the fish in March 2025. Almost to May 2026. I’ve called and emailed repeatedly. I offered several solutions to get a bite of interest in returning a call to me. I’m owed a CUC package and a $200.00 fish. I told him to send a clam that justifies a wash for what I payed. Offered to him to send me 200.00 in a CUC, along with previous ordered CUC. Doesn’t matter. I have no good feelings or sentiments towards his ethics or business dealings. What a sham! RAP Orlando today. If you’re going, only do buisness with this character if you get what you are after on the spot. I am unable to find my payment
method for any type of transaction credit, and I’m sure it’s to late to get a claim in anyways for recovering lost funds. I’m so sick of this. John, get your stuff together, a premier source of clams whatever, nice website, a deceptively inaccurate representation of what you won’t receive, or understand why you won’t. Stupid!!!

Why isn’t this guy shut down? I was fortunate in that my credit card company investigated and eventually refunded my money. He is a total scam!!! Thief actually.

Hopefully a lot of word is getting around. Invoice for what I ordered and never got made in March 2025. Week into May this year, not a word. I’ll be in LA next week, be kinda neat to drop by and check in for some cheery lying.

Sorta good to keep bumping this thread, that’s about it for me, but unfortunately I’ve gotten scammed way worse than the 265.00 in stuff I wanted through him. Time to forget, but not forget to be way more careful. Nice guy to a fault🤪

I’ve seen videos of John on youtube at the coral shows almost every time. Seems like the logistic side of things might be an issue from all of these negative experiences.

I do agree however, the not answering email or calls is the deciding factor to not spend my money here. I’ve had online retailers like POTO and reef beauties respond back to my DOA claims or shipping issues same day within the next few hours. It’s the little things that really get customers to shop over & over again.

Looking to pick up some clams in the near future, any alternative sellers with WYSIWYG?

I’ve had online retailers like POTO and reef beauties respond back to my DOA claims or shipping issues same day within the next few hours. It’s the little things that really get customers to shop over & over again.

Looking to pick up some clams in the near future, any alternative sellers with WYSIWYG?
People are known for putting on a different face for videos or in person.

I had an issue with clan mania, and I had to go through PayPal in order to get refunded back. So instead of using clan mania from now on, I messaged ORA about the crocea clams. Jordan Noe they messaged me back and told me they didn’t have any at the moment, but he would get back with me when they did. And surprisingly enough as soon as they had them, he messaged me and assisting me in picking out ones that would go well with the multiple other crocea clams I have. And they had me put in an order through one of their distributors and I gave them the confirmation and came to me literally within the next day after that super fast, extra friendly and super freaking helpful. I can’t say good things about ORA. Customer service was definitely top-notch. I have every intention of going into breeding these clans as difficult as it is and even when I mentioned about it, they were just encouraging. Unlike the other places I talked with who scoffed and were demeaning, telling me it was a beyond me if I were to try. *Cough* Pacific East Aquaculture👎 but yeah cheers to ORA should check them out top match folks there
