This may have been addressed or discussed but, I was thinking... What if I make a flattened pad out of epoxy putty to have my Derasa Clam attach itself to so I can possibly move it from the sand bed up if I need to. I just got my Derasa and want to be able to possibly move it. I also figured that as it grows it may detach itself? Or any other clam that attaches itself via its byssal threads. Or is it just a stupid idea and totally unnecessary?

Thanks!

I think its a good idea but I really dont think it'll work. I would just try to wedge it in between some rocks

It is a great idea and I have actually purchased farmed clams before that came on a pre made pad. Basically all they did was plop a piece of putty down and put a thumbprint in it. The clams were hard to get off of them as I wanted to place them up on the rocks and the pad looked out of place. But for clams on the sand I think it would work great. And you are correct about the Derasa detaching but it is worth a go when it is small. I have a 6" Derasa and in the year plus that I have had it it has never attached to anything.

This forum is great! Thanks for the replies!
I guess I will try it and see how it goes and then report back sometime. My Deresa has already set a foot-hold on the bottom of my tank (through 2 to 3 inches of sand and I have not been comfortable in trying to move it.
Here is how I thought I would make the pad with purple epoxy putty, let cure for a day. Then I would prop up the clam to sit on the pad for a couple of days surrounding it with rubble for stabilization.

ps. can anyone direct me as to how I can subscribe to a thread email alert? I don't see any obvious way to do so and I'm still kinda a newbe on here. So I have not been able to check back or be as responsive to certain posts.
Thanks Again!

You should see a "Thread Tools" button near the top of the post. If you click on that, then "Subscribe To Thread" you can select the notification option.

You may also have to adjust your settings. If you click on setting at the top right of the page, it will list your subscribed threads. On the left, there will be links for various settings. Click on the link for "general settings" and scroll down to "default thread subscription mode." Select "instantly, send email" and you will automatically be subscribed to any threads you post in and you'll receive emails each time someone posts in your susbscribed threads. You can also adjust whether you receive email notifications for PMs down below that.
