Hello Fellow reefers

This elegance coral was big and fluffy when I first brought it home.
I was boasting about it when I acquired it from Reefapalooza NY

but then this happened …

I took some pics best I could with my I-phone
I realize it’s hard to tell with these crappy pics

Would you say it’s done for?
It’s been about 3,weeks like this

wondering if I should 86 it in case it starts to poison the rest of my corals,
although the rest (except an alviopora) seem fine for now

Can you post some more details?

We need your water parameters to help you with anything.

I'm guessing it's on the tail end of Elegance Coral Syndrome, and is too far gone to save.

You should have taken action 3 weeks ago, maybe with an antibiotic dip. Maybe even a Freshwater dip

@bluemon thanks

temp- 26.5 Celsius
Salinity- 1.024
KH- 11.4
N03- 31
P04- .21
The phosphates are a bit high but I've run my tank at that with little issues, so should be okay.

But it would help to lower it a bit to around 0.5-1.0 range.

also your alkalinity is WAY too high. That would definitely have had an effect on your elegance and alveopora.

I would aim for 7-9 range

What are the other corals you have that aren't struggling?

I can’t get my crappy iPhone to focus properly.
The gray around the perimeter of the polyps just appears to be the underside of the fleshy part of the coral

Only other one is in that same tank
it’s a green Alviopora (first pic below) that used to be way extended and beautiful.
Now it’s half bleached, and completely shrunk

All the others are doing very well, according to my “untrained eye”

Last pic is the other tank (hooked up to same filter (sump)

Those corals also seem well to me

Sorry I mis-read your question

The ones I have that seem to be flourishing in the large aquarium are
Purple stylo, orange forest fire digi, a pair of green torches,
Purple Goni that looks brown in one of the pics lol, and some Kenya trees in the center
Other Corals doing well in the opposite tank are-
green mushrooms, pulsing, Xenia, rainbow hammer, a green torchy looking thing lol, a joker torch, GSP, a green slimer and a Duncan

I would think with sky high alkalinity.…lots of my other corals would be suffering?

Some hardier corals can adapt to higher alkalinity especially with higher nutrients like in your tank.

But it’s an unnecessary stress, and would be better with a lower alk.

Do you have any dips on hand you can administer for the alveo and the elegance?

About a month ago (July 13)-
Salinity- 1.024
Temp- 26 Celsius
KH- 10.1
N03- 13
P04- .05

So alkalinity increased, 1.3
Nitrates more than doubled and
And phosphates went up three times…

I know exactly how this happened… because I added several fish to each tank within this period of time.

I was gob smacked at how much more I had to feed each tank after that…
so I’m sure this has raised the nitrates and phosphates

But with only these two corals reacting negatively,
I didn’t feel it was conclusive as to why they declined

Lights are refi uno 2.1 each tank

For flow there’s two MP 10 clones in the hundred gallon cube and one in the 60
They should not be in much flow. Only a slight movement. Here’s mine. It closes at night but opens every morning. Sorry for blue. Not sure exact par but they do not like strong light. Mine should really be in the sand but didn’t want certain things to run across it.

@vetteguy53081 has them and can give insight since that’s a long time to be closed up (3 weeks)

Op's isn't just closed, it has severe flesh band recession, algae growth on the septa, and infection.

I would say three weeks in this state is a bit too late to take any action.

Beautiful Elegance btw!

Thanks, Cipro maybe? Possibly wild caught? But if it's infected, I'd be worried about the other things in there.

Thanks
Hence my question in the very first post about binning it.

I’m not sure about that yet (and clearly neither is anyone else)

maybe I’ll wait till the weekend and decide wether or not to throw it away

Perhaps the Alveopora can be saved…it’s only shrunk and slightly bleached

I would toss it unless you have the tools on hand

(Cipro, antibacterial dip, Coral Infection Elimination, etc)

And that you can commit to lowering the alkalinity to 7-9 over several weeks.

I can reduce the potency of the limewater in the ATO.
Cipro treatment for the elegance coral is done separately in a hospital tank right?

Not dosed directly to the display tank?

I do not believe 11.5 is too high for alk, it is just on the high range.... That said, if it was in an 8-9 tank before you bought it, and you "Shocked" it in to the 11.5 range, that could have been the start of its stress.
