I just moved to the Marshall Islands and want to set up a 50 gal marine tank with locally sourced materials (and fish). Are there any tips, tricks, or pitfalls to collecting live sand and rock? Transportation isn’t an issue: both ocean and lagoon are just a few blocks from my house.

I’m planning on cycling the tank with a couple of hermit crabs. Do I need any chemical or biological filtration with the live sand/rock?
Thanks!

Howdy
As with anywhere in the world, pollution and pests are always a risk. The live rock and sand will supply your biological filtration. Its live stuff so its pretty much cycled.
Not sure what you mean by chemical filtration.
