I have a 125 Mixed reef that's a little heavy on the SPS and I'm looking for what you think is the most Colorful reef safe fish out there. I already have 5 tangs that all get along great (purple, yellow, sailfin, hippo and Tomini), a Banana Wrasse, and two clowns. What should my last addition be? I want something that really pops!

I'm not sure how they would get along with your other wrasse but there is some really awesome reef safe wrasse that have some beautiful color.

harlequin tuskfish are pretty sweet, imo, and work in a reef w/ the right stocking.

Grissino,

Your current fish load is overstocking by quite a margin. I know 125 gallons seems like a large aquarium. In reality one (1) of the tangs you have listed, and perhaps also the hippo (even that is pushing it) would be enough for a 125 gallon tank. These fish all grow fairly large, and depending on what you're feeding, will attain size rather quickly. What is the left to right size of your reef? Tangs require a fair bit of swimming room, so having a long tank would be of some advantage. For a fish that would make a 125 pop, if your tang population was much smaller, I would recommend the cautionary reef safe Harlequin Tusk Fish.

Thanks again everyone. It's a 6 foot tank, Aqua. And thanks for your concern about my Tangs. I absolutely love them.

I do love the Harlequin Tusk. However, I worry about his behavior in a reef. Particularly his love for shrimp and crabs. What's everyone's experience?

Honestly, I would be looking at removing some of your fish, as opposed to added to that bioload.

I have had this tank up with all of those fish and numerous SPS for quite sometime. Heavy in, heavy out. My corals are great and my fish are healthy.

don't sweat it.. some people always think they know better than the person that owns the tank.. tang police annoy me.

He never said what size the tangs are... If they're all medium or less it's soo cool for now.

Back on topic!
Totally add:
Group of 3 anthias male/2females
Group of five to seven smaller blue/green chromis (love my chromis school)
Or a carpenters wrasse and a blue flasher wrasse.
Bc I'm doing all those in my tank lol

Thanks brother! I take care of this tank like it's a child. And I know there's more than one way to skin a cat. Everyone is entitled to his opinion. I'm glad people care about God's creatures so much.

Back to the task at hand: Anyone have any input on a Harlequin Tusk in a reef? Is it just due to inverts such as shrimp and crabs that they're not reef safe?

that's my understanding.. they'll devour your cleanup crew.. so you either have to do without one or replace it quite often.. I was reading about them a few days ago and they got mostly "reef safe" reviews with the exception of snails, crabs, shrimp, etc.. keeping them well fed was also a common theme among those commenting.

If your levels are fine then the amount of fish you have is fine.
Reefsafe and colorful I vote wrasses and anthias. With your mix I would say either a pink square or bimaculatus anthias.

Flame Angel will bring the "PoP" that you're looking for. I had mine for years, never bothered any corals in my tank.
