What lid did you order? I’ve been shopping for a top while I’m waiting on my tank to deliver. I’m leaning toward a Kraken because I like the one piece look. But Nan.roti got the 2 piece from toplids and it looks good also.

I ordered a Top Lid this time because I think maintenance will be easier with it, I want to have multiple feed doors, and the finer mesh is a little safer for some of the fish I want to keep. I have a kraken reef lid on my smaller tank and the quality is great. I don’t think you can really go wrong with either choice

Today the refugium light arrived! Unfortunately there was some kind of mix-up and I did not receive the mounting clips I ordered. How annoying. Oh well powered through with the magnetic mount for now.
Other than that I also managed the cables and am quite happy with the results. The finger conduit makes it really easy to make everything tidy.

Pro tip: this here is a C13 to NEMA 5-15 and is a pretty standard cable, you can get them in many lengths including 1ft:

Yes that looks nice

Now that I have almost everything in here that I will have, and more than enough power outlets, I set about tidying everything else up

IMG_2389.jpeg

I moved the AFR bottle to the wet side of the cabinet, it’s sitting on top of the return chamber lid. Since I only have a 2 head dosing pump anyway I have the extra holes so I figured why not. I’m starting to realize that I should get a dosing reservoir of some kind instead of just using the bottle

And my front panel so far
IMG_2390.jpeg

I did fix the chaeto ball and got it tumbling
IMG_2391.jpeg

Caught chief tank watcher Tomes enjoying watching the chaeto tumble

IMG_2392.jpeg

The new sinularia frag is looking good
IMG_2396.jpeg

Everyone else seems to be doing well as well. I went to every LFS today looking for a hi-fin red banded goby and randall’s pistol shrimp. I saw a bunch of them recently so I figured it would be a slam dunk. Nope, fresh out. So I came home with the planned peppermint shrimp instead:
IMG_2394.jpeg

and I put a pick-up order in with Barrier Reef Aquariums for the fish, shrimp, and some additional snails and crabs

Speaking of inverts, the crustacean crew seems to really like the cave I made
IMG_2383.jpeg

All 3 scarlets were spotted at the front entrance. Kingpin hung out near the back entrance most of the day and is now set up under the arch
IMG_2393.jpeg

The peppermint shrimp, who is not yet named but will be soon, has made a brief appearance but otherwise has been vibing and doing shrimp stuff in the cave

That’s all for now
You should use your cat pic for the thread that Clearview Lids just posted for their anniversary giveaway! They’re asking for pet pics along with your tank this week to enter the drawings.

Oh wow thanks for the heads up! I’ll go do it right now

Toplid was a great choice for the UNS tank. Ive had it a week now, and love it. Ive never experienced a Kraken lid, but my main goal when ordering my lid was customization to keep my fish in the tank, while supporting my equipment today and any other upgrades in the future.

I am also very happy with my Toplid.

My phyto culturing kit from @Reef By Steele arrived on Sunday and I started my first batch of Tisochrysis lutea! Seems to be going well so far.
IMG_2765.jpeg

The kit itself is very nice although the setup instructions left a little to be desired… I believe it said “setup the kit”, as if the reader surely already knows how, but I was able to figure it out from the pictures so I guess it wasn’t that bad either lol

Finally got the call from Barrier Reef and my new goby friend is here! I never got around to 3D printing any grates for the lower weirs so for the time being I just cut some coarse filter sponge to fill the gap and shoved it down in there

They couldn’t find a randall’s pistol shrimp in the tank, they were hiding too well, so I agreed to a substitute a tiger pistol shrimp who we are naming Gravedigger
IMG_2762.jpeg

Have not decided on a name for the goby yet. He’s just a tiny little guy
IMG_2760.jpeg

No in-tank pics of them yet, the goby found a spot to hunker down in the rocks and Gravedigger already burrowed under a rock so hopefully we’ll see them out tomorrow and also hopefully they find each other and pair up! 🤞🤞🤞

One more named invert added today, presenting Conky the tiger/strawberry conch:
IMG_6712.jpeg

Aside from him I also added 15 other snails to the tank to hopefully get ahead of all the new algae that’s popping up on the rocks. They’re off to a good start but I’m sure I will do well to add another 10-15 in a couple weeks

I grabbed a couple new frags of coral in the TSA anniversary sale this past weekend, they should be here tomorrow: a meteor shower cyphastrea and an alveopora. I also received a couple of reefrax magnetic frag racks that I still need to decide where to put.

The mushroom coral has shrunk a lot but I moved it to a better spot for it in terms of light and flow, and I started dosing phosphate. It relocated to the very base of the little frag rock I put it on but it looks like it’s starting to regain pigment so I have hope that it might actually recover. Observation continues

Congratulations on the new additions! I’m sure the shrimp and the goby pair up soon. I’m interested to see how your phyto kit turns out, I’ve never seen that before..

Well it seems that they did pair up last night! My wife and I were looking at the tank and they popped out of a fresh tunnel right in front of us!

In the third pic above you can see just how small he really is… so tiny!

Just before that though was some very funny drama between Henry the tuxedo urchin and Lawnmower Man 2 the pitho crab. Henry tried to pick LM2 up and wear him as a hat:

Apologies for the shaking, I was snickering while filming

My fraga from TSA came in as well and they’re settling in nicely already

I’m especially excited about the alveopora but the cyphastrea is really cool too! Looking forward to seeing how they grow

I thought I had commented on your build thread before, but I was not seeing updates. Here is another comment, gobys remind me of Archie Bunker. Forgive the sort of off topic response, but it is the best I can do. Hopefully I will see updates now

I completely agree they do look like Archie Bunker! Maybe I should have named the shrimp Edith 😂

I’m crushing on the Blenny. I haven’t really thought about adding one before. He really does look like Archie Bunker 😂
Did you ever install the UV? I wanted to plumb one in while I’m putting my tank together, but I’m unsure exactly how to do that with limited space.
I really like the magnetic scape - where did you purchase it? I think I’d like to add one to my tank as well.

I haven’t installed a UV, not sure I need/want one but we’ll see

The one I’ve shown so far I ordered from PNW Custom: https://www.pnw-custom.com/product-page/reef-float-magnetic-frag-rock

I also have a couple from ReefRax that I haven’t put in yet, still deciding where they should go

I bought a Yellow Watchman Goby and Pistol Shrimp pair that was sold together at my LFS. They got separated in the tank, but it only took them 24 hours and they were together again.

I finally got my tank. It’s set up and I absolutely love it. I’ve started a build thread, but it keeps disappearing and so do my badges. I’m down to one blank black badge now - lol. I’m not sure what’s going on with it but they are working on a solution.

The gurgling noise was driving me crazy, but I finally got it dialed in and now it’s almost silent. I haven’t organized the controller equipment yet - I still have a massive pile of cords.🤪

That’s awesome! Congrats on the new fish and shrimp, glad to hear they found each other quickly! I haven’t seen my goby since the day after I added it… the pistol shrimp is still working hard on their tunnels though

Hopefully they get your badge situation sorted soon! I managed to find your build thread without it
