It’s smooth to the touch on one of the unions for the drains. Water won’t even be that high but I’m still nervous. What should I do ? Is it junk ? Anything I can seal it up with ?

Whoops it posted multiple times, sorry about that not sure how to delete either haha

You could double this up with another plate of glass, drilling a hole through the doubling plate to match…

But, you’d sleep better at night with a replacement sump!
What about just cutting that whole panel out and recaulking a new one is that even possible

It is, but it’s surprisingly hard to do correctly!

— for a number of reasons; including the fact that new silicone doesn’t bond very well to old silicone, replacing a panel on a rimmed tank is a significant challenge! (It can often be more reliable to just rebuild the tank at this point!)

Edit:

after further consideration, the best-bet here short of replacing this sump would be to silicone a new plate of at least equal thickness over both of those bulkhead holes, effectively sealing them off! Then, re-plumbing your drains to go straight into the top of the sump so they aren’t at risk of putting stress on the glass!

i agree with that, i had a lak in the back corner of my aio a while ago and no matter how much silicone i put it never held long. i ended up getting a new tank.

in order to replace one thing of glass you would have to disassemble everything and re-silicone the whole thing.
