I just got my CAD drawings for final approval for my custom Planet Aquariums tanks (66x30x24) and stand. It's SO hard to know what options to pick since their website doesn't really tell you what choices are available, and certainly doesn't have any pictures to better understand what you're choosing. So... on my approval form, it reads "CORNER PROTECTION = NO" and "PVC DRIP TRAY = NO". Anyone with a Planet tank have either of these options (or not, but wish the did) that wants to offer an opinion?

The corner protection is a triangular piece of glass that sits in the corner rather than just the 2 side pieces meeting up. It add extra strength but depending on the tanks size and design (rimless, trimless etc it May or may not need them)

they look like this installed (sketch)
With the red being glass and the blue being silicone.

All that said, my custom 76x30x24 Trimless made from 3/4” sides and 1” bottom doesn’t need or have them.

AH.... so likely my 66x30x24 trimless with 3/4" glass won't need them either!
Probably not. I think they are used more on fully rimless tanks to help increase strength since there’s no frame anywhere

@GlassMunky I thought for sure I needed to go read through your build thread... and upon clicking it, realized I was already following it... so I read it again! GREAT looking tank!! I am beyond excited to get mine in the house. I currently have my tank quoted with a "splash guard", which is apparently like a thin eurobrace but without any structural benefit. My thought was that it would be a great place to hang the screen top, prevent splashing and salt creep, etc. Having a rimless tank, you have any comments to add?

Also, any chance you did (or wish you did) have Planet install a "PVC Drip Tray" to your stand?

I have the PVC drip tray in my stand and would not buy one without it, not only to contain the inevitable mess but also a great place to put a leak sensor.

I'm pretty sure the corner protectors are not meant to be structural, they are mostly there to protect the silicone in the seams from getting messed up e.g. by algae scrapers.

I think you are correct, only there to protect the silicone on the corners. I'm getting a quote right now for a 72x36x24 tank... going to get the corner protection option

Very similar questions i had with my planet aquarium. I will tell you their quality is top notch and have been buying their off the shelf aquariums for years. This last build(beginning of this year) i went with something custom and no regrets.

Any advice you have on this order and/or the CAD drawings? I have no one, except all of you, to trust for this dream build. The "splash gap" will be for a Modular Marine 2,400g overflow. Any last minute thoughts are appreciated, otherwise I think i'll sign the TODAY!! (if you can't tell, I'm giddy with excitement!!)

Corner protection is to protect the silicone from glass scrapers, I think reef savvy’s armored seams are what they are imitating. I got a planet tank a few months ago and didn’t realize that was an option. I would have gotten corner protection if I realized that was an option.

It depends on which one you ask for, i am ordering a tank from them and just spoke to one of their rep's yesterday. He said the corner protection is for protection on the outside of the tank, the vertical seems/corners. You have to specify "inside corner protection" and that is an acrylic ( i think he said acrylic, not 100% sure) strip they cut and install on the inside corners to protect the silicone from the scrapers.

It’s actually black plastic incorporated into the silicone of custom build. I haven’t seen any with glass and I’ve had 3 Planet Aquarium tanks with them and just ordered a 4th. All with “internal corner protectors.”

On the quote request form, you can note "Internal corner protectors" in the Additional Notes section of the quote request form. The tank would be a custom build as internal corner protectors cannot be added on a tank that is already built, so our builders would need to start from scratch.

Here’s what they look like on my 105/G. I love them. Can’t do a tank w/o them now. Seams look the same 5-10 years from day 1.
