Cyano!!

Woke up this morning had my cup of coffee looked the tank noticed some cyano begining to grow on the sand. And I thought it was going to be a relaxing day. Other than siphoning it out and blacking out the tank what other methods are you guys using to counter this?

could a cause be due to over feeding?

It could deff be over feeding. Food is the prime cause of Phosphates in our tanks. Check your levels.

checked my phosphates with a hanna checker. test results are 0.03ppm

First thing I'm going to do is starve it of light!

Make sure you are not cutting off O2 as well.

Check your water. I had a cyano outbreak and thought I was overfeeding. Cut back on feeding, siphoned out gunk and refilled and it would already be coming back the next day. Finally checked my TDS meter on the outflow side and it was 24... Changed the DI resin and I'm back to zero and cyano is almost gone.

Vinegar dosing has cut down on cyano growth for me, but not completely eliminated it. I overfeed. :squigglemouth:

I was good and then I felt bad for the fish because I love to eat everyday so why wouldn't they. So I started feeding everyday what do you know, here comes the cyano!!

I had cyano while dosing aqua vitro fuel. Cut that out and haven't had any cyano since. Idk.

Hopefully when I get home the problem won't be worst if so I may have to do a water change. I figured .03 ppm phosphates isn't bad but could be after all
