LMA's 40g kinda-cube

Well, my tank sure as hell doesn't compare to a lot on here but I hope you guys enjoy the pics! This tank is 40g (24"x18"x22") and has been up and running since Jan 2009.

150W MH w/ 2 T5's
10g Sump
Chiller
No Protein Skimmer (for now)

Bueatiful corals. I am amazed the results you are getting with no skimmer. I wouldn't want try it. You could get a cheap one like an Octopus for about what a watermelon chalice frag costs. Great skimmer for the price. I hear the Eshops are a decient low priced skimmer as well, but I haven't owned one of those. You must be doing something right, even without a skimmer, the corals sure look healthy. Good job.

Thanks Robert, in early 2010 I plan to upgrade to a custom 24"x18"x20" starphire tank. At that time I'm also going to upgrade the sump (the current sump only has a single baffle) so I can run a skimmer and not have a micro-bubble problem. I do have an ASM Mini-G skimmer sittin in the closet but will probably upgrade when the time comes.

I've gotta say, I give all the credit to the Brightwell salt I've been using the past couple months, good salt and regular water changes is all it takes. I have to dose VERY rarely.

Thanks, unfortunately I just discovered a small crack in my stand which is pushing up my upgrade to a starphire tank of the same size, new sump, skimmer, lighting, etc. Looking forward to the new build but wasn't expecting it to come down so soon!

Well, unfortunately I live in an apartment and move every 2 years or so, 40g seems to be a perfect size for what I've got going on.

The main reason for upgrading the tank itself is not for the starphire glass. The current tank has a HUGE internal overflow right in the center extending from the top to the bottom of the tank, it's wasted space and it drives me insane. The new Lee-Mar tank I'm ordering will have an external overflow to maximize space inside the tank.

Ahhh I see. I hate big overflows.
