Deep water Candy Basslet

Hey everyone.
i have a 15g tank and really want a nice fish as a showpiece. I’m saving up for the deep water candy basslet but non of my LFS has this fish. Which websites would you realllly trust to buy an expensive fish like this ? Thanks :)

Do you really want to put such an expensive fish in a small tank, realizing the "extra" husbandry that will be required?

It's not likely that your tank is large enough/well setup for that fish. I haven't kept a candy basslet but I've had a peppermint and a manyline basslet (same genus and similar behaviors) and both of them really like to keep to the rocks most of the day, and given that any of them will get to almost 3 inches long nose to tail, unless your entire 15G tank is full of live rock, you likely don't have sufficient space for them to hide out most of the day (I have doubts that my E170's rock is ideal for my manyline basslet, though I haven't seen health or aggression issues).

On top of that, when they do come out, they are very capable of moving fast, and my previous peppermint basslet in particular liked to quickly dodge around rocks and through the tank, and 15G again just doesn't leave them with much space to move.

If you want a curious, neat looking, and somewhat unusual fish that sticks to the rocks most of the time, maybe a possum wrasse would be a bit better of a size fit (though still on the small side for the tank, imo).

mnnn 15 gal maybe too small. They need lots of hidden and somewhat large rocks, caves and holes, preferably all live and likes good params.

Candy basslet is the ultimate small fish!! 15 maybe be small but they are very cryptic and having a small tank would allow you to see it more. Not sure how much they actually swim around. My basslet just swims around the same rocks so he doesn’t really need much space.

A properly set up 15g is absolutely fine for a Candy. I've kept them in smaller. Just make sure to provide enough rock and hiding places. And I'd probably stick a lid on that 15g as well.

A 15 is fine for a candy, my Swiss is happy in an 18 and like others say they pretty much just hang out in caves and hidey holes. They seem to be quite timid.

Have you considered a Swissguard (Not ‘Swales’) instead? They have intense coloration similar to a Candy, and they are about 150-250 (instead of 750-1000!). True Candys are a deepwater basslet that needs a cooler temperature than what reefs are generally kept at too.

Either way It’s a dangerous/foolish game to buy such an expensive fish unless you have lots of experience with fish husbandry…

Nope! Yellow assessor was more timid than a RG but they both make themselves known once established. Yellow assessor is one of my favorite semi cryptic fish.
