Made 80 gallons of water today, luckily the containers are in the garage. Water line slipped out and made a mess! It was a small amount of water but thankful this is in the garage.

Last my youngest looking up at the tank!!

Tropic Marin invented balling but when I was doing research TM was hard to find and basically zero US support. I went AF since it's readily available and a lot of support. There is also Triton, other methods which is basically the same. I suspect Triton costs more than AF especially when mixing your own 123. When your tank takes off you'll want to mix your own to save cost, why pay to ship water. Not saying TM is a bad choice but it looks more difficult without any significant benefit. If RedSea had a 3 part, instead of 7, I would have used it since I'm still using RedSea salt.
You need to use up your coral pro and use a salt that mixes to 8dKh. I think hitting your target dose will be easier with fewer alkalinity bumps. You could dose for 12dKh but those little bottles won't last long.
To give you an idea of cost; my tank, RSR525, is new like yours and I use 25ml/day AF 123 and maintain a 8dKh, 425 Ca and 1350-1400 Mg. I only have sticks still so my uptake is low.

[QUOTE

This seemed like a good time to flip the rocks around. I used to have the large structure on the left, I decided to put it on the right and see how it looked -

[/QUOTE]
Yeah, I've always (30+ years) been a fan of 'easing the eye' into any tank by having less obstructions coming from the left, then building it up towards the right. Something I read about & agreed with in the late '70's. Nicely done!

@bknapp I've been wanting to attend some swaps, I am not sure that 2017 will allow that. I have two kids under the age of 2 and they keep the wife and I pretty busy. I won't rule out the possibility of attending just yet though, I got a few months to plan and save some money! haha Has the location and time been finalized, what is the entry fee?

And if you're ever in Dubai, I'll show you around here too ;-)

Recently I seen Pelphrey acquire some Acrylic cylinders from Australia and it got me thinking. I have had my 250 up and running for about 7 months now and have been trying to find the best/cleanest way to put in a refugium. This is what I have came up with and I would like to get some feedback Good/bad/concerns/etc. I am rather newish to this hobby and need help on a daily basis. Thanks in advance for the help.

I'm kinda wishing I went the way of the cups. I ordered a baffle specifically made for reefers from Reef Dreams UK on July 7 and it hasn't come yet. I emailed them 3 times and didn't hear back. I set up a dispute through Paypal two weeks ago and no word. Then I finally got through with a phone call this morning and the guy said they had a fire in their shop and it destroyed the machine that makes the baffles. He said they had to get a new machine and it will be another couple of weeks before they get things rolling again. Well that's a legitimate excuse but I wish they would've let me know about it.

This is what I did similarly, no cup though.

First pic is when I first set it up.
Next pic is before most recent harvest, I did change the light out. It started off with a par 30 white and blue bulb I had from a nano tank. Changed it over to a par 38 grow light after I saw that it was gonna work for me.

That is a great idea. I may have to do the same if the cylinder will not hold enough micro. That being said... How much is to little or to much? Is there a ratio for size of tank?

Thanks, i just threw some pieces i had around the house together and it seems to be working ok, even if not the prettiest thing, lol.
I've just been going by light duration and nutrients. I removed about 2/3 the cheato after that pic. I don't want it to become a detritus trap. Currently running fuge light about 8hrs, nitrate 8ppm and po4 is .03 happy so far.

Good call on detritus. Rinsing it during water changes may not be a bad idea. Will hermits eat the micro? Could possibly stick a couple in refugium to help with deposits. I also have my light set for 8hr run time. See what happens. Thanks for the input!

Pelphrey, The manifold looks awesome. Need to order the parts. going to duplicate that using the Reef Octopus Vario s6. Do you have a list of the parts you used. Is it 1" down to 3/4'? I can guess sizes by looking at it but yours is perfect. I have been trying to figure out a way to get down to one pump for as long time now. Your set up is awesome!! Was wanting to wait on the COR 20, but the Vario s-6 went on sale for 206. Can return it if the COR comes out soon enough.....

Awesome. Thanks for these photos. I get it all now. Just one final question. Where did you but the blue fittings?
