DIY Radeon clone?

Have you guys tried Mint out ar all ? I LOVE the mint conpared to Lime. StevesLeds has them for $2.25 I think.

I like Mint, but it’s only in the Luxeon C footprint. Same phosphor mix as the Lime, just less phosphor so the blue/violet bleeds out more. Using a smaller reflector with the Luxeon C has a lot of problems with color banding which don’t show up in Z footprints, so I’m also testing larger reflectors as well.

I’m looking at a tank upgrade in the next 9 months or so (90g to ... 180g? 300? Sky’s the limit) and playing with different layouts and mixups. Doing noodling here:

He is using Lux Rebel ES,C's and T's. I feel like he uses 1 too many mints,but thats just me. My light now uses 2 old 11ups he made (4x es royals,2 es true blues,1 es cyan,2 es neutrals and 2 es warms). If would,I would swap all the leds. I wish I had the room to add more violets and cover from 400-430 they way I wanted with leds from RapidLed.

Really ? I feel like mint was way more yellowish green than mint,more of a off green. Idk my eyes told me I was different spectrums.

Sounds good. Once I add this 2nd bar I'll have a total of 8 Mega 4Z Pro's over a 210 gallon that is 54" wide x 30" deep and 30" tall. I was thinking about adding another bar but using the Half Mega daylights. Or maybe some singles mixing in lime and whites - to tune the color.

I was going to ask what intensity / power you are running them off but see they are offline and not mounted yet. I'm running the current set at 80% during their peak.

My tanks are 66”x40”x25” so I have a bit more to cover than you do. Hence the ten 48w pucks and the additional T5. Have you tested PPFD in your tank with the eight puck config?

I'll let you know when I get my pucks mounted and what I think about power levels. I have a few months as my tanks aren't started yet. This is a slow grind to final assembly!

Well, I would love to work with a company to produce the blend I think is ideal on a board of 13:

4xRB (ch1)
2x410 (ch2)
2x420 (ch2)
1x395 (ch2)
2xmint (ch3)
1xcyan (ch4)
1xblue (ch4)

To me, this would be an amazing light and hit all of the growth spectrums pretty much and color like mad.

This is just me though.

2x410 (ch2)
2x420 (ch2)
1x395 (ch2)
2xmint (ch3)
1xcyan (ch4)

To me, this would be an amazing light and hit all of the growth spectrums pretty much and color like mad.

This is just me though.

This looks good to me. Lower in the red/orange/amber and higher in the green spectrum than combos with the white phosphor LEDs.

Nothing really is in it still other than what I moved over from my 40 breeder and the rock is still maturing. I have a Seneye that I picked up to play around with. PPFD - I'm drawing a blank, sorry. I did do a few test measurements with just the 4 I have and the Rapid LED chips and was reading 250 - 340 PAR in the middle of the tank. 500+ at the top. 60 - 140 bottom.


Here is the 360 PAR sample at the middle of the tank. Chips are mounted pretty high at 16" above water. I think I am seeing some of the spill over from the Rapid LED / Mints on my older chips. Again, just me playing around with the Seneye to see how it works. I'll get my daughter to help and take proper measurements once the new unit is completed. Oh - these are only running at 80%.

PPFD is PAR, sorry.

Looking good on intensity already, and spectrum looks good too. Are you shooting for higher PAR low in the tank as well? Full SPS tank?

No need to be sorry - it is ignorance on my part. I tend to go mostly soft and lps corals but I wanted a sound base to work off of. I am thinking about adding a clam and a few pieces of sps. Sps would be a red, green, or purple Montipora and something like a birds nest and a bali green acro.

I was thinking I could keep high light corals on the top layer of the tank. I have no idea where or how much light the montipora requires and I've never really kept sps corals before. Again, back to that ignorant comment of mine above :D I was honestly just shooting for 200 - 300 in the middle thinking that was enough but I really am not sure what is needed or what should be a good goal.

If the measurements are even over most of your tank, I don't think you need any more PAR for that setup. Plenty of light to keep that assortment IMO.

Thanks. That is what I am hoping for anyway. Should have them wired up here later tonight or tomorrow depending on how the rest of the work day goes. Also have a bit of post holiday clean up to take care of but that is the goal anyway.
