I've decided to DIY a sump, using acrylic sheets for my 125 liter (37 gallon) tank. The tank will only house two clownfish and eventually BTA.

I have the following questions:

1. Shall I use acrylic glue or fish safe silicon? Sump size is approx 68x27x30 cm (customised) which will fit perfectly in the

cabinet below the tank.
3 Is 5mm acrylic thick enough?
4. Shall I add a skimmer.
5. Is an ATO necessary.
6, I am concerned with overflow in case of power outage. The tank will be placed indoor. Any suggestions?

1, acrylic glue to assemble you can always back up seams with silicone after
2.????
3. For baffles in the sump sure for the actual sump itself go thicker for insurance
4.skimmers are nice to have but not necessary if you keep up on maintenance religiously
5. Seems your fairly confident working with acrylic so why not make a ATO reservoir it’s great to have especially if your away for a few days i prefer a gravity fed ATO with a small float valve instead of relying on sensors and switches
6. Definitely consider sump volume for power outages or when you shut off the return for maintenance this can easily be tested or calculated before you permanently install your sump baffles
