Hello all,
Decided I was going to get back into the hobby after being MIA for about 3 years. Wouldn’t say that I was too experienced when I was in it so I’m still learning and I’ve forgotten some things.
I used to run 3 tanks at once back in my prime, waterbox AIO cube, Waterbox marine x60.4 and a 75 gallon tank that was plumbed into the marine X (long story, didn’t end up working out) since then I have sold off basically all of my equipment except for my cube 20 (in case I ever wanted to get back into the hobby.. good call) so that’s where we are today
Equipment:
-Sicce syncra silent 1.0
-200 micron filter sock
-Icecap K1 nano skimmer
-Hygger HG172 (up to 792 GPH)
-Inkbird ITC-308 temp controller
-Fzone aquarium ATO
-Heater (don’t know the brand)
-AI Prime 16 HD
-Aquatic life RO buddie 4 stage RODI unit with attached TDS reader
I’ve attached some pictures of the tank and will give you a run down of what’s going on so far
Filled the tank 1/24/26 with RODI water (TDS reading 0) and rock that I saved from one of my old tanks that’s been sitting in my basement for 3 years.. I know I’m not supposed to do that because the rock was live at one point and probably carried ammonia to the new system. Salted the tank to 1.025 and have just had the system running for a week. No skimmer, no lights, no carbon or anything.
So I guess where I’m at now is that I wanted to start the cycle tonight using some kind of bacteria (hadn’t decided which yet) so I went to my LFS, picked up ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate test kits and decided to go with microbacter 7. Made sure everything was in order when I got home and thought just for the hell of it, I’d test the water. Turns out I’m getting readings of nitrite, and nitrate (ammonia is reading 0) I’ve attached pictures of the test results as well..so I’m wondering, could the cycle have started just from putting that old rock in the tank and letting it run for a week? I don’t see how that’s possible but who knows
Added 4ml of microbacter 7 and will continue to update the thread with all progress on the tank!
