An honest coral reseller actually confided in me that wild-caught stony coral,
particularly Acropora has a survival rate of less than 10%.
He had stopped selling wild-caught Acropora for that reason.
It lasts just long enough to be sold plus approximately 2 weeks then dies of RTN.
It is because our reef tank conditions can never match the environment, as hard
as we might try.
Save your money and protect the environment
It is best to buy aquaculture, and a small frag is the best way to ensure this.
And select one that has encrusted growth on the frag itself.
It's also much better for our coral reefs.

I have 7 colonys in my tank which would disagree with this...

I'm not a seller.....................LOL. I have friends with Aussie colonies right now as well as Fiji, and Indo colonies. Back in the day before aquaculture, that's all we had and unless you had no clue what you were doing then you were someone who lost 90% of what they bought.

Jamie Craggs is one of the pioneers of spawning.

Richard Ross is spawning corals in his home...............has several videos & have done public talks around the country.

Most light manufacturing companies have upped their moonlight programs for more people that want to spawn corals at home.

I'm not going to feed the troll anymore but my info will be of interest to others in this forum.

How many have grown into a colony Big E?
I live in Aussie dude, right next to the ocean, I go to Cairns every year
My brother works for the Great Barrier Reef Authority in Townsville

It's a system for reefers to share information not a system to exploit hobbyists
Thank you for your opinion, again. This time for telling us how you think the forum should be run, and how you think it is run.

So where is the exploiting you are so concerned about? I have seen you falsely accuse at least two people in this thread of being wild selling vendors, and were wrong each time, with no apology given.

And to numerous people, myself included, in numerous ways, you have spoke like you know others peoples corals and coral history, better than the owner themselves. Again, with no apology or acknowledgement when being informed you are wrong.

What’s that got to do with the price of milk on Sunday?

Are you a coral reseller? Just a yes or no will do!
No need to tell me how much you have imported or from where it came like the others, just a yea or a no will do

There we go, you are the reason why this system should not include resellers, dude
If you are selling the stuff, how can anyone be sure of the information?
It called a conflict of interest dude, you guys know all about it

You collected them yourself, did you?
Or can they speak on wise one?
Of course not (like Sydney, there are no Coral reef's off the coast of Adelaide) ...but they were ordered through one of the companies in Aus that is licensed to take them off the reef.

It takes a good 6-12 months for them to settle into a tank, and they can brown out, but that is just part of the process. (they actually brown, then purple, then come back with their full colours).

I have both aquacultured and wild coral in my tank, and they all do well under the right conditions.

I am not a seller of it, I am a buyer of it with 20+ years of buying experiences. Some of my pics are from my tank 10 years ago and some are current. Never had an issue with anything near 10% survival rate on wild coral.

The issue is when the vendor gets that wild colony, chops it into 50 frags, glues them to plugs and sells them a few days after the glue is dried. They arrive bleached. The parent colony dies from stress. And nobody wins. I wouldn’t blame the coral…

And i'm sure you could find it diving....
I used to live in Sydney (actually longer than i have lived in Adelaide), and dived most of its coastline.
You can find coral in certain parts of SA also (southern Yorke Peninsula etc), but I still wouldnt say there is coral here.

Not really the point I was trying to make, but have your fun. 👍

Perhaps post some pics up of your Tank?
