so I was wanting to put an overflow on my reef tank I got a 90 gal from petco 8 years ago and it’s stocked up pretty well. Really don’t want to pull everything out to drill it. Has anyone done this before?

I would say not a good idea.

Also you need to try to figure out if that tank was tempered. If so no drilling.

I've never drilled a tank

You can count on the bottom being tempered, but if you were going to use a shadow/ghost overflow more than likely the sides are not. There is a video on YouTube showing how to test the glass. Make sure you test the glass before drilling.

There is the key to, NO.
Being 8yrs you don't know or can see micro scratches that will turn into a fractured pane as you drill. If it was like you just filled it and it's brand new, than YES drill it.
Empty it to about 2-4 inches below the hole. And drill super soft high speed. But being that old, NO WAY.
