I have a duncan head that is not looking good. Its a 4 headed colony that I got in August. Its been been happy ever since until yesterday (12/4/19). The parameters have been stable. 1.026, 425, 1350, 7.15dkh, PO4 1ppm(I will be working on dropping this. Its never been higher but it has been lower. Sometimes its low other times its high), NO3 10ppm, 8 PH, 78 Temp. I will be doing a ICP test before and after my water change.

The funny thing is that I hear ducans grow fast or at least can but mine has not grown any new heads.

Nothing good happens fast in a reef tank....and stability is everything ..plus good lighting and flow ....in other words.....it will come ....be patient :)

Mine will occasionally get grumpy for a day or two then come back in full force. They’re very resilient and have been with me as one of my first corals. Got it at 3 heads about 2.5 years ago and fragged it more than I can count. My param: ph ??, Po4 ???, Alk 7.2-7.6, Mag 1500, cal 500+, No3 15-20

Feed feed feed and they’ll grow like weeds. For a while there they got more food than my fish. Lol. I fed them LRS Reef Frenzy with a turkey baster every other day. They Looooooved it. Had to slow down a bit. Getting a bit wild and bunched close together, so can’t cut em back as of now without a saw.

Duncans are easy ,, give them light ,, give them food ,,, like Reefer Maddness843 said ,,, you will be fraging yours because it gets to big ,, I feed mine Reef Frenzy or Fauna Marin pellets ,, I like them ,, long polyps that will sway in the water flow and give movement to your tank ,,

The only thing I would suggest ,, you seem to have yours placed down in a low crevise area ,, I would move it more out in the open ,, closer to the light ,, you see where Reefer Maddness843 has his placed ,, try to emulate that ,,

I was thinking about moving a few weeks ago even though it was looking great in the current location. It is getting 75 PAR in the location in the picture.

Its your call wither to move it or not ,, you are the one actually looking at it ,, as long as you think its happy and doing good where its at and you like it there ,,, let it be :) Mine is getting 300 Par maybe more ,, at the top of my scape ,, with polyp heads the size of a 50 cent piece ,, I only say this to let you know ,, they can take a lot of light if you decide to move it down the road ,,

Hi,
I purchased my Duncan in the spring. For the first months everything was wonderful, then it periodically closed until it closed completely. I already did not know what to do, until I bought the reef roids and began to feed each head separately . And now for 4 months they are constantly disclosed and a lot of new heads.

My duncan was the first coral I bought when I jumped back into the hobby almost two years ago. He was single polyp and didn't grow for about six months. Then I noticed a couple heads. In the last year he has grown to the size of a big fluffy baseball. Every now and again he might deflate a bit for a day or two, but duncans are relatively easy once they are established. I have had to adjust the flow on mine a couple times. But yours looks fine. Give him a few more months. He will come around. :)

Could Potassium or strontium have anything to do with it. The ICP came back and K is at 311ppm and Sr is at 6.3ppm.

I know I am harping on this ,, but I really think you need to move it ,, I know you don't want to, but if it were mine ,, I would move it ,, 75 Par is not enough for a Duncan ,, I am not saying it won't live ,, I just don't know ,, I have never kept one in that low of a Par number ,, Chalices would have a hard time with a 75 Par number ,, jmo

Look at Reefer Maddness843 picture again ,, I would bet that Duncan is getting at least 200 Par ,, I will get you a picture of mine today ,, its at the top of my scape ,, its getting a 300 Par number ,, it really needs more flow ,, if I did that though ,, some of my SPS corals would be getting to much direct flow ,,

It has not gotten better. A second head is holding on barely by a few tissue pieces. The parameters are still stable. Don’t know if it could be flow. I attached two videos. One is low flow the other is High Flow.
