I have 3 outlets within a 6 ft span an my aquarium stand (newly set up) is in front of one of them. my surge protector IS NOT behind the tank but only 1 foot to the right. They are all GFCI protected (based on my little tester) however I would still love to protect them from even tripping.

I'm thinking I have two options...
  1. Preferred - Remove the outlet altogether, cap the wires and put a blank faceplate over it
  2. buy something like this which simply inserts
I think in either case, I plan to run bead of silicone around the edge to completely seal off. Additionally, I'm planning to move the surge protector to a adjacent wall (tank is near a corner) and build a panel to manage power cables.

Would love your thoughts on the two options and whether this plan is sound.

Thanks in advance!

Option #1 would be the best.

I think option 1 is over-kill. Option 2 with silicon to seal it off will be fine. It would be the way I go in your situation.

You need to find the 1st gfi in the whole wiring circuit, as that protects all following outlets. Change that one to a standard outlet.

I have that done. Just looking for added protection

Like @Billdogg said, you xould use an outdoor rated weatherproof cover. They come with a little foam gasket. You can also find "in use" covers that protect it from water even with cords plugged into it.
