I have never had a problem with tiny Emperors. I buy them as small as I can find them, and raise them to adulthood. Then after a couple of years rehome and start again.
Agree with those above. Get a small one. They are very hardy and acclimate to foods easily. I prefer to see my fish grow up as well. Added benefit of the small ones being substantially cheaper too!
I appreciate it. They don't look too bad but if you search around there's tons of warnings on finickness etc. Yeah there was a $400 difference in price between sizes.
I suggest you look around. NYAquatic regularly has 5" adult coloration specimens for $150 (plus shipping I'd imagine).
