I want to find a few pieces to round out the top end of my tank and being that I'm impatient, I want some fast(er) growing specimens (aka no purple monster). My interest being mostly LPS and Palys I'm not hung up on exclusivity and LE status, not that I'm opposed to spending money on some nice sticks. I'd be happy with a bunch of $10 frags that are colorful and will grow in nicely and rather quickly too. So give me some suggestions please.

Monti digis grow pretty fast for me as well as the Bali green slimer. I have heard that most birdsnest corals grow fast too but mine are somewhere in the middle as far as growth rate. Hope you find something! Sorry I know that only one of those is an acro.

Why dont you just buy a colony?

No they dont have the designer name, and dont get me wrong i love designer corals, but you can get nice colonies for good prices!

Some nice ideas guys, thanks. I should have said SPS rather than acros. I'm just looking to fill in some top space with some color.

I thought about doing this but I've heard that wild / maricultured pieces many times lose their color. Is this true? I've never tried keeping whole colonies, just a few frags here and there.

True, ive heard wild..mainly wild aussie sps brown out...maybe indo sps do better.....Im not sure on you question about maricultured...the maricultured acros ive owned kept their color...

Birdsnests seem to grow really quick for me, I also have an Elkhorn coral that grows like crazy and its growth pattern is so unique to anything else out there....its cool

From my exp with mariculture and or wild most will have color just not that original bright intense color you saw the day you got... I have many wild and mari pieces that all have nice color but it has totally morphed into new colors.... For instance I got a white hummilis with purple tips that I had in captivity for 2 months and now it's a very intense green with blue blue tips.... Still looks nice but looks like a totally different coral lol...
I have one stubborn piece that won't color it's brown and most likely always will be...:(

I agree with the tri color. Slimer also grows pretty fast. And the birdsnest do also. Pretty much what everyone else has said. LOL

My fastest two growers are the Tri-color Valida and my Garf Bonzai. The Atlantis Bonzai grows pretty fast as well, just not "as" fast.

Shawn,
I got a bunch of nice ones ill hook you up with when i swing by..Stylos, Birds of paridise, a few dope Millis...

also dont know if your into montis..(caps or encrusting kind) but there also great growers for me

Thanks for the ideas guys. I'll hit you up Ed before you come over, thanks!
