Day 1 of my cube. The water is not clearing up very quickly. How long does it usually take? I used “live” sand and wasn’t able to rinse my dry rock before filling due to weight and drying of the cement etc. I can change the media out a ton if needed I have a lot.

Inkbird with 100w Icecap titanium heater at 77 degrees

Nature Dimensions N-Fill ATO

G5 AquaStar light

My return pump is at 80 because 100 seemed like to much flow.

Anyone have any tips for the Fiji Cube? I’m not using the filter sock but I could for the initial clearing of the water. anything I should put in the second sump chamber besides the heater?

You didn't rinse the sand? It's going to take a day or two, sometimes longer. Keep changing the media to capture the silt though. It will eventually settle, but anytime you disturb the sand it will create a cloud. After siphoning the sand a few times, you will get most of it out though.

It was live sand. I didn’t rinse the dry rock. The way I had it glued and stuff I was afraid rinsing it would add to much weight and break when trying to get it in the tank.

if it was like the caribsea "livesand" it still should have been rinsed. better off always going dry + a bottled bacteria for caribsea instead. you get more and those bags have usually been sitting around so long and smell bad when opened.
just keep using the sock and rinsing it in the sink to remove a lot of the silt as rocks reef said

I did the same thing with live sand when i set my tank up, it should settle overnight, i also changed the filter media multiple times as said by others here.

Gotcha, yeah it was Carib sea stuff. I haven’t dosed anything for cycling yet as I’m just trying to make sure everything works and temp/salinity are stable. I will do a water change and vac the sand to help.

that will work as there shouldnt be much bacteria present in the tank. my go tos are fritzyme 9 and pns substrate sauce for new tanks. have you added ammonia yet or are you waiting for this to clear up first?

I have not added ammonia yet. I am waiting while I make sure the AIO works salinity stay levels and all this clear up. I use the Microbactor products. We will see how they go but I’m hoping the live rock I looking up jumps starts a lot. I am not to impatient on adding live stock but I’m keeping the light going 1 hour ramp up 6 hour full 1 hour ramp down. Will add some cuc as I see some algae. I also will add pods once they arrive in the mail.
