I keep filter floss, heater and my skimmer in the rear chambers of my jbj 45

Depends on the tank and your budget. InTank Aquatics makes ALOT of stuff for AIO's. Lot of media baskets and stuff that work for almost every AIO out there. They also make Fuge baskets and sell the corrosponding Fuge Lights that work for AIO's, so you could do that as well.

Common setup I see is Filter sock into Media basket loaded with something like Filter Floss/Carbon/GFO, into AIO Skimmer, into return pump.

Filter socks in an aio?
I have a fluval flex 32.5 gallon and think socks would Ben a great idea.
