Just wanted to know how often you guys change out your filter socks, and how you guys clean them. I am getting sick of these things and wanted to find out what works best.

I get a new one every 6 months or so,and I clean every 3 days, just like I do with my skimmer.

Why are you getting sick of them?

get a wife lol,(oops) I change mine every 3 days, shake them out into a bucket with a bit of water to harvest the goodies and rescue the stupid, turn inside out and wash with bleach in the machine, done this for years and never had an issue

The key is frequent cleaning. I rinse mine out at least every 3-4 days and change out every 2 weeks. To clean them I soak them in a bucket of bleach and hot water overnight, rinse, dry, rinse, and dry again. Never had any issues and they get nice and clean.

I'm getting sick on how quick they fill up and start to flow over the side and make all kinds of water noise. What is you method of cleaning?

Never used any bleach remover, it evaporates.

Eh, I just mix some water and bleach. Put a decent amount in there...you know...

When I clean them,I take them out and put them into a bucket,I dont waash them in my washer as Im not getting that much gunk in it,I get larger particals and extra crap, thats it.The junk comes out with a simple swirl in the bucket of water/bleach.I dont leave them in there for long, like 5 min.and I dont put in very much bleach either.

I take them after I put them in a bucket and give them a bath in RODI water, then put it away for 3 days, the do the same thing with the next one,3 days later.

if your getting finer than a 100 micron they will clog up quick, I noticed the ones with the plastic collars are real bad for that but the bigg draw string ones are awesome

filter socks

Change every 3 -4 days, depending on flow. Take 'used' sock and rinse with hose (jet spray to loosen up / wash away the crud), soak in solution of tap and bleach (about 1 part bleach to 2 parts tap water - Maybe a bit more bleach if real nasty), let sit overnight in five gallon bucket.

Pull out, soak in 5 gallon bucket with RO/DI water with cap of Prime/Alpha (dechlorinator), let sit 24 hours.

take out, let it sit in sun for a good 12 hours (let the sun bake the filter sock through and through - does a nice job of evaporating any left over bleach.

Give it smell test...so long I don't smell bleach, its safe to be used again. If I smell bleach, back into a RO/DI solution with Prime.

I just put them in the washer. I have like 6 socks and I change them out every week. I wash them when I have 5 dirty ones. No bleach just a wash in the washing machine with hot water only. Works great.

Thanks guys for all the good info!!!! I have been using the 200 micron one with a plastic ring, maybe I'll try the string one next time. around how much bleach do you guys use say in a 5 gallon bucket?

what are Filter socks??? JK, I stoped using them a while back, mine would clog up after 24hrs and be overflowing.. I have like 6 in the garage, I might just clean them tomorrow and give them a shot again, then again I might not...

I would just say forget the bleach and follow MoneyPit's advice first and if that doesn't work then do the bleaching.

couple cap fulls....enough to smell the bleach when the 5 gallon bucket is full of water...put bleach in first, then fill bucket to mix it real good, then drop in the sock, and make sure its fully immersed.
