So to sum it up, I should just fallow for 45 days, and then maybe get 1 fish and wait for my tank to get mature and stable? After it gets mature I will slowly start adding fish.

if you don't QT the fish or buy QT or buy captive bred directly from biota or ORA.

You stand a good chance of your fish dying again.

In terms of water changes, do I need to do them? There are no fish in the tank only coral.
Well, you need to do water changes at a rate to keep your corals healthy, that is based on water testing and what your goals are.

One more thing, since I am doing fallow, I won't have any fish to feed so wouldn't my nutrients go down? If so, wouldn't that cause dinos to grow?

You can test nutrients then buy and dose bottled no3 and po4 if needed.

You could also feed powdered coral foods but they can be really high in po4 so you have to be careful.

Idk what corals you have, but big mouth LPS like to eat and they will poop too ;)

When my tank had to go fallow 45 days, it looked absolutely amazing. I dosed Red Sea reef energy and some powdered coral food now and again. I fed the LPS mysis and I removed my filter socks during that time.

Also my frag tank goes long periods without any fish in it. I use it to fallow snails and inverts so don’t keep a fish in it permanently.

Every tank is different so you just need to find what works for yours.

What I can tell you is that a single firefish is a very low bioload so it was already close to fishless already in terms of that fishes waste production. Your tank may not even notice.

I have 3 corals so far, A candy cane coral, he is doing great ever since I got him and had 2 heads but one was starting to split and now he is almost done splitting, the second coral is a hammer coral, he is doing pretty good, he has grew a bit since I got him, and lastly I have a lavender mushroom coral, he is doing pretty good and has grown as well. I also have a BTA, not sure the exact one but maybe rainbow. He was growing when I first got him and was doing great, but ever since the clowns died like 2-3 weeks ago, he hasn’t been doing good and is not really closed but definitely smaller. Thanks for the help, you explained it well and made it make good sense. There corals aren’t very big to the point that they have big mouths. I can attach some pictures.

The candy cane will eat :) BTA too but maybe just occasional mysis, nothing too crazy. Clowns will naturally grab food and feed the nem themselves normally.

They are a little closed up right now, probably because I just turned the lights on about 5 min ago. I will take some more in 1 hour and they will be more open

Ok, I need to get mysis, my only form of food I have is flakes lol. As for the clowns, I’m sure they did that when they were here, not with us anymore unfortunately!

Ya I would not let fish live on flakes alone, TDO pellets and mysis at minimum for something easy to find. Spirulina mysis/brine if you ever have an alga eater (blenny or such) in the rotation as well. LRS nano is really nice for anything if your LFS carries it.

Ok, I will go and get some pellets, I use flakes because I need something I can feed quickly as I have to leave on the weekdays pretty early for school.

Might get a blenny later on but so far I don’t plan on getting one. My plans are having a pair of clowns, a fire fish goby, a yellow watchman with maybe a pistol shrimp, and lastly a cherub angel fish. I know it is a lot but I think I will be able to manage, also I will slowly add so the last thing would be the angelfish and he won’t get added until all the other fish are comfortable. I have a 3ft 30 gallon so I think that might be good enough.

Sorry for asking so many questions, but last one lol. I am running out of salt. Currently I have the basic instant ocean sea salt. I am thinking of getting reef crystals. I heard they are better for coral. Also, I do water change every week, which is a 5 gallon which is about a 15-16% water change, and since reef crystals has the extra calcium and other stuff, I won’t need to dose that stuff and it will help my coral. Also last thing, not sure I stated this but I dose DIY coral snow after every water change so far have only done it the last 2 water changes.

You can use either salt... many people have successful tanks with IO.

I prefer normal IO to RC because it has less organics, chelators, and vitamins and other BS in it. Makes my mixing bucket look nasty after a bit.

I would use frozen. petco sells it. Feed pellets in the AM and frozen in PM.
Ok, there is a petco walking distance like really close haha. I will probably just get mysis from them and the pellets from them as well.

Ok, I am saying that because people say reef crystals help with coral and they have seen differences in coral. If I were to switch, do I do it just like a normal water change or will I need to do less for them to adapt to it. It is only 5 gallons out of a 30 gallon tank so I think I can pass with a 5 gallon water change.

I would just do a water change.

Salt is highly debated and you will find people who like x over y. There is no clear winner of salt.
