First Lobo - cut tall skeleton?

Got my first Lobo frag today. Very tall skeleton and I’m wondering what to do with it. I’ve got a 1” or so sand bed, so I could bury it there and then the coral could grow out, but would still be above sand. Or I could cut the skeleton down (any concerns) so the live coral is closer to/on the sand bed.

What would you do?

The lobo will eventually be irritated by contact with sand. I would bury the plug and 1” of skeleton and that should keep it stable and also reduce the height

Wasn’t WYSIWYG so didn’t know it would be so tall, but good idea!

Thanks. Should I be mounting on a wider rock or is the skeleton with some sand clearance sufficient?

The skeleton can go in the sand just fine. I would keep the top flesh a bit elevated off the sand

That all depends on lighting intensity in the spot you want to put it.
