Hello all Newb here. I got my first sps in the mail a few weeks ago and it came a brownish color which was a surprise. Hoping it would color up but has instead starting turning white. Hard to tell from the picture but only the tip still has some brown color left.

Tank is 8 months old.
Alk 8.5
Nitrates 6.0
Phosphates 1.0
Temp is 76
Specific gravity 1.025

Thanks for the help. I want to start keeping sps but still learning.

I'm sorry but its 99% dead. Could be so many reasons for that to happen, its impossible to say with knowing nothing about your tank, it could even have just been the transportation and nothing to do with your tank at all. Don't let it get you down, good luck.

As a newb i would look for hardy local pieces as testers vs ordering online. My first year with SPS was rough with quite a few losses. It gets better as time goes on but there will still be unexplained losses.

EDIT: I didn't mean to call the OP a newb. Meant as when I was newb it's what I tried to do.

Ok bummer. thanks for the help guys. Unfortunately I don’t have any local shops or know of anyone in my area that has reef tanks with sps.

Check the local online classifieds like kijiji and facebook market. Check for online local reef clubs. Local people are always selling you just need to find them. Good luck

I have bought many from GWcorals on eBay. Over 30. I have not had one die. He combines shipping fees, so more you buy the cheaper they become. A lot of them sell for under $10.
