This thread is just to discuss fish for a 90g reef.

I am unable to add more fish as the current fish either chase them and kill anything added. Also emerald crabs and snails vanish.

Current fish:
Melanarus wrasse
Tomini tang
Red flame hawk
Fox face
Red cardinal
Royal Gamma
File fish

Coral banded shrimp

I tried to add clowns

I add emerald crabs to help the Valonia (bubble) algae. Added 4 and can not find any after a few days. Had about 40 plus snails. Most are dead shells..

Now need to figure out which are the villains or get the all out and get all new fish. Even getting some fish out means tearing everything out to get the fish out.

If I did get new fish for a 90g reef. What would get along. Looking to have 10 or so fish.

Is there a possibility that you might have some unwanted hitchiker in your tank? Thinking about a mantis shrimp or something like that?

I would look into individual behaviour of each fish. Imo fox face is the most likely, but who knows…
No point of getting rid of all your fish, just identify the culprit with a live camera. They behave differently when you are in the room :)

When adding a new fish, try turning your lights WAY down for a few days. I just turned mine down to like 5% when adding a new chocolate tang that my fish were being extremely aggressive towards, and it really helped the situation. He's now mostly integrated into the group.

Taping a mirror to the glass also can help curb your current tank inhabitants' attention because they'll be busy fighting themselves. Most of my fish posture for the mirror.

Even if you replace your fish, unless you buy all 10 new fish at once, and never add anything else, you will likely encounter similar territorial aggression with the new batch of fish. Maybe not if you watch and find one rogue bully that's the culprit of all of the deaths, but fish generally defend the tank towards new additions.

The wrasse may have a taste for the snails. Since removing a coris wrasse from my tank I can keep snails again.

You have three fish that eat crustaceans (Melanarus wrassee, Flame Hawk, and Filefish). When you add the Royal Gramma that makes four fish who are territorial. It is also not uncommon for Melanarus wrasses to become very aggressive and kill all new fish, even fish three times their size. There are three wrasses I will never get again, They are Melanarus, Sixline, and Lunare. All three are beautiful but have a tendency to get extremely aggressive to the point where they are the worst! You can get lucky and get one that isn't "Jack the Ripper", but over the years I've learned to avoid those wrasses. In my tank I had a large Harlequin Tusk, large Cuban Hogfish, medium Clown Trigger, and medium Redtoothed Trigger, and Melanarus and it was the Meanarus who attacked and killed every new fish added until he was removed.

So to get these out means a tear down to get them out and hopefully what ever corals on the mail rocks don’t get destroyed when pulling the rock out of the tank.

I guess I’ll make up 20-30 gallons of new water and go get some rubber maid tubs to get this going.

I could also scrub the rock to get most of the algae off as well.

Once I get these fish out I can put them in a 10g tank but need to find a taker.

Also who has ordered fish online in the winter. Probably a bad idea.
