Hi so my tank is the Eshopps mariner 130 (60x22x22). I’ve been brainstorming a stock list and trying to plan out how I want to add the fish. Let me know what you think. My LFS has agreed to quarantine the fish for 2 weeks for me before I get them. They will also hand pick from the suppliers. Currently the tank has 2 clowns and a flame hawk fish.

(First group)
Flame angle

Pair of banggai cardinal fish

Midas blenny

Royal gramma

Firefish 2

Yellow watchman goby

Pistol shrimp

Diamond goby for the sand or will the watchmen be enough?

Melanarus wrasse

A cool fairy wrasse?

Carpenters wrasse

Yellow banded possum wrasse

Pyramid butterfly

Blond Naso tang

Powder blue tag

Desjardinii Sailfin Tang

Yellow tang

Blue tang

Are you meaning to introduce "all" of those fish? With rocks (obviously), you would be seriously overcrowded. Maybe that is just your "maybe" list to choose from? 🤷🏼‍♂️

I like a lot of fish honestly :) but I was just brainstorming not saying I would add all of these fish. And definitely not all at the same time. I want to start with the smaller peaceful fish then add my larger tangs all at once at the end.

The powder blue and yellow are the only tangs on your list that would be appropriate for that sized enclosure.

When I first got a 150-gallon I suffered from the dreaded "just-one-more-fish" syndrome. I like to think I've learned a lot since then, but anyone is capable of a relapse! Lol! But my standard advice now to people is to research the heck out of all your 'dream' fish, and select carefully from a narrowed down list. 😉

Completely disagree. You can have a blue tang for many years in a tank this size. It’s 5 feet long which if you get some of these fish small would be plenty of swim room until they outgrow. Which would take some time.

Possum Wrasse are beautiful; but may stay hidden in a large tank with aggressive or semi-aggressive fish. They are really good in peaceful nano tanks. I'd just hate to see you spend $80+ on a fish that you might not see much of. Lol. 😉

This is the kind of feedback that’s very helpful thanks I’ve never seen one in person before they looked like a mystery wrasse to me. That’s one off the list :)

Respectfully, we stock for the tanks we have, not for the ones we may have later. Yes, the tank is 5 feet long, but (assuming you get them as juveniles) the Sailfin and Naso will require a larger tank in 2 years. As for the Blue, it will require a minimum of a 180 long-term, and I personally feel they should only be housed in an 8' tank or better.

You need to remember that it isn't just about the size of the specimen, but its behavior(s) as well. Failing to provide adequately for both is poor husbandry. We want the animals in our care to thrive, not just survive.

Just to add-- in case it appeals to you, I currently have both a Flame Hawk 'and' a Longnose Hawk in a 5' 150-gallon. They don't give each other a second thought.

I'm respectfully going to agree with Fish Styx on this one. Never been a fan of buying fish that will eventually outgrow a tank. If you are going to get fish for a tank, it should be fish that, at their maximum size, will still be ok in your tank. Maybe that isn't the best logic to have, but I have seen too many people who will get a baby fish of X species and say, "Oh, I will upgrade the tank or just give the fish away," then never do that action. Resulting in the fish being in a tank that is too small or in a poor environment.

You guys are acting like I’m going to put a tang into a 2x2 cube. If the fish is appropriate for my tank long term is not my question. You have no idea of my situation and future plans… that being said I’m %100 getting a blonde naso tang as it’s my favorite fish when it outgrows my tank in a few years don’t worry I have a plan lol.

I’m not set on the sailfish, blue or yellow. Like I said I was just brainstorming and wanted to hear about compatibility, how fish should be added or other unique fish that I should take into consideration.

That’s very good to know I love the long nose I used to have one but it jumped 3 times and the last time it jumped through the net lid and landed on top of the lid and died

Most places are selling Longnose Hawkfish so very tiny now ($100 micro-fish, if you ask me). They can definitely get through netting until they grow. Lol.

Fish prices have literally tripled since the last time I had a larger tank :/ this hobby is getting so out of reach for normal people

I recently saw CJ had a convict tang and those things look so cool. Would they fight with a yellow or purple?

Agreed as to fish prices. I've been trying to buy fish two-at-a-time ($99 min. orde) and spread the shipping cost over two fish, at Reef Beauties. Like a Longnose Hawk and a Convict Tang.
