hello! new to the reefing community. i started up my AIO aquatop 40 gallon tank about 5 months ago. the tank has been doing awesome! but i am wanting to upgrade to a wider and bigger tank. my LFS has a brand new Siena Aquarium Set, 88 US Gal / 332 L tank for half price. i’m just curious if anyone knows or has converted this tank into a salt water tank? thank you in advance! happy reefing!

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

I hate to be a downer, but with the intake and return down so low, this tank strikes me a geared towards freshwater planted tanks where you want to keep the surface very calm, to keep CO2 in the water for the plants. In saltwater, we really try to keep good gas exchange, and to get all the CO2 out before it can form carbonic acid, and lower the pH in a reef tank.

Could you run this tank as a saltwater tank? Absolutely, no question. Would there be potentially better options? I do think so.

I don't know the cost of this tank you're considering, or what your budget may be, but have you looked to see if there's anything from Innovative Marine or Waterbox, for example?

Good luck with whatever you choose!

Defintely post back with any questions, or I'm sure other members could make further suggestions.

Good luck!

I think what you should do is go into the tank build threads and check out what people are doing.
There are great big and small tanks. But you need to see what some people are doing, read about why they're doing what they're doing and pick up some about how they're doing it.

There are a few really good custom builders here who will take good care of you.

Don't confine yourself to something off the shelf either. Explore some custom options.
I like very modern things, so for me it had to be a rimless tank, but I didn't want glass because all I see everywhere is peoples tank blowing out for whatever reasons.

It took me longer to do that because I had to independently source everything, but I'm totally happy, and this tank is only 45 gallons. It's nothing too expensive to maintain, nor is it anything too unmanageable.
It's the first truly enjoyable tank I've had in a long time.

Check out other tanks and after a while you're going to form a much better opinion on what you're looking for.
Don't settle.
