Following members

what does following a member do? I follow a couple people but I do not get any notifications when they post. Does following actually do anything?

Good questions. After looking at the alert settings under the user control panel, I did not see an option for automatic alerts for those members a member follows. I am not getting alerts for those members I follow.
So here is a bump and I am now following you.

There is no way to get alerts when someone you follow makes a post? If not what's the point of it?
