? for yellow watchman buffs

About a year ago I acquired a second Watchman goby. It was given to me as an anthia. When I received it it was white or gray and I thought it was a different type of goby. I posted about it and was told it was a large female which can be white.
So a year later my small bright yellow male has turned white with dark stripes and a bright blue fin on the underside of its tail. Is this normal? I can't believe the difference. and no more "yellow" in this watchman.
The two are still paired up and happy though.

No clue why they changed color but love the black/white with the lil' spots!

My guess is that they are going to spawn. Ywg are known to change sex/color, but when you have a pair and the yellow male changes to the grey phase, that's usually an indication they want to spawn.

Iirc, raising the fry is somewhat similar to clowns, in that you need live rots of a certain size.

Yeah I have no intention of raising them. Its hard enough keepin everyone happy. Lol just glad they are that comfy. :-D

Here is a link to my recent spawning from my pair. And it that link there's a link to the first time they spawned. It's good to see a pair that is happy, not many can keep these guys happy and idk about in your area but here it's next to impossible to ever see a ywg in a lfs. I would have to say it's harder to raise these guys than clown fish. These guys require the small strain of Rotifers which are expensive and hard to find then you have to buy cultures of green water to feed the rots and a lot of time. So unless you don't have a day job I'd say try it out. But anyways here's a link to my threads. Idk why he changed colors but the new coloration is very pretty. I'm setting a new 40 gal and would love to have a yellow watchman but I also want some sps but these little guys like the taste of sps

Mine have never even paid attention to my sps. They could care less about what corals around them. Frankly I don't see how they could eat sps they have soft mouths and very small teeth. It would be very hard to break a piece of hard corals. Gobies are one of the most reef safe fishes out there

Yellow clown gobies may nip sps, but not yellow watchman gobies.

Ive had the pair and atleast 10 sps for a year with no trouble. The gobies never leave the sand.
