Fox Face with circular wound - ID?

I woke up this morning to a pretty large wound on our FoxFace. I think it’s healing but I don’t know what could have caused this type of wound. Any thoughts or helpful ideas would be appreciated.

I hand fed nori and mixed mastik with selcon and beta-glucan this morning and this afternoon. Just making sure she has a little extra vitamins today.

Looks to be a wound and has a bacterial infection due to the reddishness. Kanaplex should help.

Looks to be a bite mark likely from clown otherwise injury which has become infected. You can use kanaplex, however do this in a separate treatment tank and do not place in food but rather in water as it is easily absorbed by fish and treats both internally and externally

Hi @vetteguy53081 —-i was about to treat the tank with Cipro…would that be an alternative over a hospital tank? Just curious.

The Cipro treatment is treat a repeated issue with STN of colony bases. But I’m holding off until the latest ICP comes in.

No Cipro, best left for human use and may help occasionally with coral issues. Kanaplex is what you want or Seachem neoplex - Noth broad spectrum treatments

No, don’t do that. Kanaplex is toxic if you dose too much.

That is very large to show up overnight, could have it been smaller and just missed previously?

Bacteria often grow in circular growth patterns starting from a central smaller injury. Any treatment is going to need to be in a hospital tank, dosing with a good broad spectrum, gram negative antibiotic like neomycin or kanamycin.

I don’t think so .

I’ve never seen a foxface or tang get Uronema. Those lesions are more narrow and vertical.

Luckily there was a good sale on a 20 long at Petsmart. I setup a hospital QT in the office. Tidal filter, sponge filter, heater, and pvc hide.

Waiting on the ammonia badge and kanaplex.

Might use this same setup to pull my Hippo tang to get her re-homed after I get my fox face through this issue.

Still eating well. Fed her the mastik mix with selcon and beta glucan this morning. She ate pretty aggressively.

I fed the tank rods food fish blend this morning after I fed her several helpings of mastik and she didn’t seem to want to compete with the other fish. This was similar to yesterday’s behavior and is a little different than normal.

She is at least 10 years old in my care and probably a year or two before me.

Also, I did notice that her fecal output is more liquid consistency …not typical of her solid output. This is the same as I saw yesterday as well.

I should be getting the Kanaplex order this evening. I decided to grab the Fox Face after work.

Never fun.

Just matched salinity and pH on the QT and the display.

Grabbing some plastic things to coax her into while wearing a heavy yellow arm glove.

Ok.
