So about a year ago I was gifted a Warpaint Scoly from a local reefer who was moving some coral on.
DSC06826.JPG

It did ok in my main display, but never thrived due to the high light for my mostly SPS system.
I moved it into my frag tank to recover where it thrived and close to doubled in size, so decided to take the risk at cutting it in half, and see how it went (since it owed me nothing anyway!)

Cut it on the 3rd of June, then gave it a bath/dip in CIE (Coral infection elimination).

Glued both pieces onto a new frag tile, and put back into the frag tank.
Both halves have been feeding, and showing good growth back.

Updated pic from 8th June.

Will updated this as they heal up and re-grow.

Enjoy

Update 16th June (*edited*) 2025.

Top piece is re-growing well, im actually not sure if that little piece on the right is actually a third Scoly re-growing from the old skeleton (would be amazing if it is!).

Looking great!

A shame Scolys never really recover to that perfect circle shape well.

I've actually heard mixed outcome's on this - hence trying it for myself!

The original Scoly also receeded and was looking pretty bad for a while last year, and it bounced back, re-growing to a perfect circle again.

Right, they can regrow onto existing skeleton with good care, but when the skeleton is cut, they never recover to that perfect circle

Would they not re-grow a skeleton over time?

Presume you mean June unless you’ve created a Time Machine 😏 cool progress.
Ha! I read and reread and checked the yr and date like 6 times a bit confused as well lol

They do, but not in the perfect circular shape, they are always a bit lopsided forever
Makes sense - it was actually already a bit lopsided due to receeding from the skeleton last year!

All fixed now!
Didnt realise i got it wrong in the original post also! haha

Any news on the progress, very interested to learn how this works out.

Both halves are progressing well, took this snap of the bigger one yesterday - will do proper pics this afternoon if i get a chance!

Both still feeding, but this one is much larger - i think it had more of the mouth when i cut it, so it has recovered faster.

Current progress as at 05.08.25
One side is recovering almost fully (still a bit to go), the other a lot slower.
I'm actually tempted to frag the larger side again...

This is great! Thanks for keeping us posted!

Update September 2025
Larger Half is getting better each week, looks like there is a smaller Scoly off to the side, may need to split that off onto its own plug eventually.

Smaller Half is still healing, this one will take longer to grow.

Took some pics to show the feeding reposnse this is getting at night (highlighted the coral with a UV torch)
I'm convinced I now have 3 Scoly's (although one is teeny tiny!)
