Hey I have a 75 gallon freshwater tank with a large angelfish, a big black ghost knife fish, a small bichir, a giant danio, a clown loach, and a zebra loach. I want to know if I could possibly add one yellow lab cichlid. I know they can be aggressive but I heard they’re actually on the more peaceful side when there’s only 1. Can I add one or not?

Depends on what your long term goals are.....the bichir and knife will both outgrow that tank eventually. Right now, with the bichir being small (and not likely to eat the cichlid...yet lol) you would probably get away with it. As far as the labs aggression, most cichlids are fine as long as they have their own territory.

Much better would be to figure out what fish you have that share temperament/compatibility and water parameters, and plan stocking that way. Keeping a Malawi cichlid and soft water fish like the loaches doesn't make sense; the clown loaches and the danio don't really have overlap in temp preferences. Also, those loaches (and probably the danio; I've not kept that species) would be a lot better off in a species group of at least a small handful.

You'd very likely get better advice on a FW forum, not only in light of the relevance of topical knowledge but also because SW fish keepers are in general much less focused on the needs of fish.

Oh yeah thanks for the advice, and yes I know they’re better in groups. But I’m trying to just keep my giant danio until he dies alone because he kills any other danio that comes in. As for the loaches, they both had soulmates that were killed by a pleco, and they kinda just hang around each other and they lay by each other like they would with their other mates.
