Frosted Glass

I used Calcium Chloride in my saltwater tank, and Now my glass looks like Frosted Glass, how can I get this off? I scrub it with no avail

An algae magnet or edge of an od credit card should work. Best to add to sump and let return pump disburse it

Tbh it would take months if not years of nutrient build up on the glass to actually etch it. I work for a float glass company....and have also dealt with this etching issue personally....i would think this would be more of a coating and adhered issue then an etched one....great video but even with alkali etching not all hope is lost....cerium oxide does do the trick if using a certain technique obviously tank cant be full or in use but can polish the iron off the glass to get the alkali etching off.

Thanks but finally with a razer blade scraper made some headway but very very slow, also cannot do a lot due to corals and fish because dust from scrape seems to want to coat some. Just doing a little at a time . Thanks, really don't want to break down the tank unless absolutely have too. Thanks for the advise, I did remove filter and heater, used white vingar and he worked well after sitting a for about 2 minutes.

When you say you administered in four parts. Did you add 1/4 of that gallon of mixed solution at a time to your aquarium?

yes, but making headway with razer blade scraper, doing a little at a time, after making some scratches seem to let the razer blade get to glass and getting this off, however, with my fish and corals have to do just a little at a time due to the dust from the glass seems to want to coat the corals and making the water cloudy, but seems to be working .

yes, but finally making headway on the glass with razer blade scraper after making a few scratches, let the razer get to the glass and starting making some spots to clean the glass. Very slow process, however, from scraping leaving some dust in water and coating some things, therefore only small patches at a time. Changing filters every other day and adding API quick start.

How did you administer the dosage?

and how much?

Size tank?

40 gallon tank and used a one gallon package, administered on four parts , Making head way after making some scratches with razor blade scraper allowing me do get to glass under the film, allowing me to make enough to see the inside of tank. That being said have to do just a little at a time due to creating like dust in water, don't want to coat the corals not only being bad for the fish. Thanks for your concern, but think I am on the right track now.

I would try Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, make sure you get the genuine article, NOT a knock off. Start on the back glass, gently scrubbing. Too much pressure and you can Scratch the glass. Especially on low iron glass. Before using the Magic Eraser, run it under water while squeezing it. I soaked mine overnight in RO/DI Water, just in case there was something in the sponge.

I have this issue on two tanks atm. It didn't happen overnight it took a couple years of my extremely hard well water. I got cerium oxide to fix the one, other one got set up as a nano reef this will be taken down when my other system is up. Its not really noticeable on a fresh water tank with typical fresh water lighting but under blue light its very noticeable. It isn't easy to fix, lots of polishing with the cerium.

regular glass. The video posted by @wisnia99 from @Tidal Gardens was starfire I believe. I watched that video when it came out because I was looking for a solution. Mine was the first time ive seen this and then that video a few days after I discovered it was a thing was the second. Did research and found that the only way to fix it is polishing it off. Using a drill and polish pad isnt working great I need to probably invest in a decent buffer.
