Hey everyone! So I am getting a new, moderately priced coral, I am getting a dragon soul torch next week! I am expand nervous! Does anyone here have any insight about them?

Needs moderate flow and likes elevated magnesium (1400). Acclimate with half-tank water and bag water for a few minutes before placing into the tank. It likes moderate light, so keep it at the bottom first and acclimate to light into the moderate flow and light area.

Some detailed tips:

Sounds good! Yeah the plan is to start it at the bottom. Good to know about the magnesium though! My tank sits at between 1250 and 1300 so I will need to up it a bit

So, if this is your first torch ever.

They can bruise easily which can lead to infection. Handle with care. Don't thrash it around trying to set it in its spot.

If you have sand spitters, set the torch above their spit line.

Make sure its well secured so snails, urchins, or angry hostile territorial clownfish/damsels cant dismount it.

Im sure there's other things. I'll post if i can remember.

They need moderate care and assure calcium go to low or high levels, medium flow and light. Mine always deep in color - One of the biggest problems I see is failing to account for the calcium demand for these specimens. If there is insufficient calcium in your aquarium water, these corals will not be able to make their coral skeleton. Also never lift a torch coral out of the water if you can avoid it as you could tear the polyps, and torn polyps are prone to infection followed by necrosis.
Like most large polyp stony corals, torch coral benefits from moderate water flow.
They are best at upper half of tank where they can receive proper light and water flow. Too little or too much flow will cause this. Torch require typical parameters which you have IF accurate including:
Temperature around 78 degrees
Specific gravity of about 1.025
Ph of about 8.2
Calcium level of about 400 ppm
Mag 1300-1360

Torch coral do best in moderate water flow. The polyps will shrink if the flow is too fast because the polyps will tear off in higher currents. Also torches are a photosynthetic coral which has a relationship with its inner zooxanthellae which lives inside its tissues that converts the light into energy which feeds the coral. While it does not require direct feeding, feeding is beneficial and I feed mine Mysis shrimp.

Thanks ! All great to know! I have a very specific spot for it where I used to a have a Japanese green torch. It is a pocket so it can’t be dislodged. And I don’t think I have any spiders to worry about. Yes please if there is any other info you can think of, I will take any advice I can get! I have had one other torch, so I am a bit nervous.

Wow! Thank you for such in depth info! Yeah all my parameters are in the right range. I have heard that once a torch in placed, it’s best to leave it be. I will post on here as I go

Yes, dont disturb it. They often need a happy spot and can be challenging to the most experienced aquarists

I know the feeling. We definitely have a lot of trouble shooters on here.

Let's hope that wont be needed
