Hi, I just got an Apex classic orange brain and I have 3 old dc8. What are the advantages/disadvantages to use this ones and not the EB8's?

Can I get same programming benefits of I will be limited?

I git just the brain

Hey ,

@SuncrestReef may be able to help

The DC8 is before my time, but from what I've read they are still compatible with the Apex Classic. However, they will not work with the current model Apex or Apex-EL.

Please refer to the DC8 User Guide to properly set the DIP switches on each DC8. Plug the first DC8 into the "Control" port on the Apex Classic, then daisy-chain your additional DC8's to one another through their Cntl-In and Cntl-Out ports.

As far as I can tell there is no advantage in programming the EB8 vs the DC8. Only the newer EB832 provides new programming capabilities with its per-output Amps and Watts readings. See my Apex Power Monitoring tutorial for more details.

Good luck!

Correct - They are specifically for the classic units whereas the EB8 will work with any of the newer units as an extension outlet source

So, As I understand, there is no difference on the functionality between them? I have them working today, but what I want to understand is if a EB8 will provide me different features or not.

I clearly understand the EB832 is different, but for the EB8, no difference over the DC8?

Thanks in advance !

I ran an apex lite with eb8 and dc8 for years. there is no real functionality difference between the two. The only advantage to running an eb8 was a total power/amp gauge. I’d keep the dc8s until they die.

The EB8 is plug-and-play with no physical settings to change. The old DC8’s require you to manually toggle some DIP switches to assign its address. Very old-school.

Thanks, so the difference is the power/amp vs DC8 that can not provide that information, right?

Right, I already did that and I have conected 2 DC8, but thinking on change them if I get any extra value, but if not, I will keep them.
Thanks @SuncrestReef
