Did you swap out everything after the metronidizole? Remove the water too? So it is an entirely new setup and residual medication cannot be the cause?

What salt mix and source of water are you using?

In my tank, green star polyps in poor light (shaded heavily) actually turned white.

Xenia seem hit or miss and can grow like crazy, then all die back. Might be a nutrient or trace element depletion issue, or something else, but no one has clearly identified the reason that I know of.
Also, do you have activated carbon in the tank? If not, it should help to remove any residual medication that may exist.

I presume you mean this for the op. I’ve never medicated a reef tank. :)

I completely drained and moved a tank that I bought. The rocks sat in Tupperware and barley any water in it and the GSP survived. Honestly i didn't think that it could be killed even if you wanted to.

I did have some activated carbon but i have finally figured the issue. i bought another gsp and xenia yesterday but before doing so i raised my magnesium to 1400 and now i have the xenia and gsp looking pretty good as of today. that was the only change I've done with my water parameter.

That seems unlikely to me to be important to either one as they do not consume appreciable magnesium, and 1400 ppm is way above natural levels.
