GSP HELP.. Since setting my lights up I runs a solid 8 hours full spectrum at 75% intensity giving me the optimum par where I want it using a tmc lps6 lamp then from 5pm until 9pm I run blues and I’ve at between 50 and 60% intensity before lights out.. my question is to start Gsp used to stay out until the last of the blues ramped down at 8:30pm where as now at 4:00pm when they go to blues they start closing up within an hour . The only change in my water parameters is the nitrates have risen back to 2ppm from 0.05 after diatoms. And phosphates are 0.001 and very slowly climbing. All other corals and my yumi mushroom are very happy 😎.. it is a low flow area so I’ve moved the 2nd wave maker closer.. could it just have decided its night when the white lights go off 🙄?

Is your intent to run an ultra low nutrient system?

phos at .001 is zero, which is not good for corals. Acceptable low range here is .03-.06, but there are many of us that are fine with .1-3.

Nitrates are also very low.

Personally I'd increase both.

Apologies Bryan I forgot to add the main cause of the issues.. my tank is only 70 days old 🙄.. it was next to zero nitrates and zero phosphates 3 weeks ago due to bacterial bloom then diatoms. :) I’m trying to increase nitrates and phos through feeding ( but not over feeding) and frequent 10% water changes weekly :)

I'm thinking likely just this, they look healthy in your first pic with the lights on. They tend to close up when the lights go out. Also in the second pic it looks like the macroalgae is blocking some light, perhaps time to trim this back a little?

Also 2ppm nitrate and .001 phosphate are a little low, I would be more concerned with these falling more rather than rising.

I have found regardless of light, flow plays the importance and mine which are plenty are under medium flow. Sediment can make them withdraw and once a week I give them gentle blasts with a turkey baster and there is a bit of mulm that dislodges from the rocks they are on and quickly they perk up

I say rising because last week I could not register nitrates :) I’ve trimmed the macro algae back. I’ve now also added a rfg to my outlet to move more flow in that area. It doesn’t help that my pederson shrimp practically lives on the Gsp all day 😩 it’s got a little debri on it so once a week I dust it off with my water change and very little comes off.. it has stuck to the rock this week aswell rather than being just placed on it. So maybe growing at night ? 🤣

I have done this now and moved my nano wave make above it to move more water around it :)

My par there is about 120 on the rock above is 180 and 2/3 up the tank is 250 best I could do with a 45cm deep tank my worry was @ 100% lighting my par minimum is 190 on the sand as you can see by my pic the polyps are not blown the way yours are so I imagine increasing the flow there is the next thing if my new rfg doesn’t do anything :)

That's probably a bit more than mine is getting in the first image so it should be enough I would think. In the same image it's getting enough flow to wave back and forth. In the second tank it gets whipped around.
