I've had these two watermelon chalices for about 5 months now. They've been doing great since day 1 (until two weeks ago).
I started to notice a white area on one of the chalices and then noticed that the green watermelon area was starting to shrink...eventually it was to the point that it was all gone. The flesh started to shrink and the skeleton was showing more and more.
I moved stuff away from them thinking that maybe it got stung. It's the only two little frags that are not doing good in my tank at the moment. The small 12 gallon nano has a mix of softies, sps, and lps...it's so weird that the chalice are the only things that were affected.
They were close to: Candy Cane, Jasmine/clove polyps, and three ricordia Floridas. I personally didn't witness any touching and looked a couple times with lights off and didn't notice anything either...there are quite a few pods that roam around that area and some pods are quite large.
Now that they're in my other tank, the flesh looks puffy again and they look like they'll be able to recover... what do you guys think may have caused it? It almost looked like the green ring/watermelon part of the chalices were the target and looks like they were either stung or getting eaten...thoughts?
