My 1 year old hammer all of sudden the head looks deflated, open mouth. And looks like dying. And this happened yesterday. It started with the polyps looks deflated. I did iodine dip this morning. But it seems to get worse.

I do have this happen quite regularly but the effect is only temporary.

My blue is quite clumsy.

Also known for tasting corals when bigger, mine did, but just once.

I tend to just do nothing for a day or two.
Doesn’t look to bad.

Is it possible to do a large water change and then add fresh activated carbon to a media bag?

Did a water change few days ago, and i have a carbon reactor running 24/7
How much water was changed? When I have coral issues, I like to do big ones. It resets things.

Also, please stop dosing phyto for the time being. Skim heavy and wet. Just feed the fish reasonably. I’ll try to help you fix this.

When was the last time you changed the Carbon?

Can you do another 20%? That will help. I’m very successful at keeping torches and hammers. I never had a loss. I really believe I can help you.

I would change the activated carbon. Use less, and change it more frequently. About every 2-3 weeks.

Next we’ll take a look at lighting and flow, but let’s make these changes for now.

Oh, I see. Looks like most of the corals are fine. Hmm weird. Try to see if something is picking at the hammer.

You don’t need to do the water change or Carbon change if you don’t want to. Try to see if something is picking at them.

You have a really nice tank!

Woke up for a polyp bail uncle :/
You’ll need to keep a close watch on your tank friends.

Your corals look great so I have no concerns with environment.

When 1 polyp goes poof and everyone else fine, I suspect someone got carried away and either bumped or bit that one polyp.

Can’t say I don’t get that from time to time.
Found a crab once. Seen my blue taste a hammer.
But this thing has stopped for a year ish now.

I agree. It’s been happening to a few of their hammers, so it’s pretty selective. It’s not just one hammer.

The last hammer that this happened was a baby hammer head were gettign shaded, so i had brown jelly on them, i cut them out, cleaned the head. And it was fine. I had a torch head bailout 4 weeks ago. I dont know if this stuff just happening randomly

Does the bailout seem to happen at a specific time: night or day? or is it just random?

Inverts are usually awake at night. That’s why I ask. It can help us clue in if there might be something picking at it.

You have quite a few more fish than what you listed. The list are all reef safe, so they shouldn't be the issue.

I had to rehome a filefish, dwarf angel, and a foxface - all classified as "reef safe with caution", but the filefish was eating my cynarina, the dwarf and foxface both wanted my trachy.

If that hammer isn't sick then its getting picked on by something.

Sorry I'm no help but have a question. Do you find the magnifier (?) useful?
