Heaters what do you recommend glass or titanium built

I need to get some more heaters and wonder if the glass ones brake to easily or are they stronger than they look ? the titanium type seem to work what do you think?

it is hard to find a good titanium heater anymore. Sadly, but they were the gold standard for a while for quality and reliability (remote thermostats, etc). Not they are just poorly made imported crap for the most part.

Do seek the hard plastic ones such as the Marineland Stealth. Very durable.

I'd steer clear of the marineland stealth as well. I had one short in my tank and released plenty of stray current and had another I used in my mixing station that actually started bubbling (not sure if it was electrolosis or boiling the water). I like the Ebo Jager titanium and Finnex titanium heaters, but none of them seem to last more than a couple years.

lol you are joking right? A stealth would be the LAST heater I would recommend..

Finnex titanium or good ole jager glass will work fine. Hook them up to a controller for added security.

i had bought 2 of the stealth heater s the pro series and my local fish store called me amd told me to bring them back for a full refund as stealth recalled all of the pros so you cant even get the pro series they pulled them from the shelfs

I returned my stealth heater and went with a visi-term. Well just glad I checked my temp tank shot up to 84 and the heater was still on, and set to 78. Needless to say there was a RKL hooked up the next day, and all is fine now.

It is not so much the type of heater you buy nowadays, but the thermostats on all of them are junk. Hook it up to a controller or a ranco controller and you should be good to go. remember 2 smaller heaters are better than one large one

Another Jager user here. My only complaint is that they seem to be a little longer than other comparable glass heaters. But if you have the room, they're great. My oldest heater is about 4yrs and still going strong. I would also recommend doubling up on heater as well. It may cost more up front but it doesn't hurt to have a back up.

I don't think the issue is glass v. titanium. Its more getting a quality brand. For glass Ebo Jager is a great brand, lasts pretty well, etc. I've been using Finnex titaniums for years too, and like those. Best though, is to have a second controller. The thermostat in the heater (at least for those that have built in temp control) can fail, and you want a second temp probe so that you aren't having one part fail leading to a cooked tank.

I use to have stealths but after the recall I decided to replace them. I ended up using them for my mixing barrels. The Jagers are nice but they're freakin long. I ended up getting the Rena Smartheaters.
