Help creating static IP for Apex.

Then I may try a systematic approach. I may pick up a bridge and see if that helps. Then run a cable to actually hardwire. If that works I’ll route the cable through the walls. If I do the bridge or hardwire, do I need to change the connection type in apex from WiFi to hardwire?
Any recommendations for something like a bridge to receive the WiFi connection and then wire to the apex?

Static ip, last I checked, is provided by your service provider. I paid extra years ago…
This is to assign your router a static IP address from the internet service provider (WAN side). This is not what would help the OP assign a static IP on their Apex (LAN side).

As mentioned, you need to assign a static IP address in the settings of your router. It's really not that difficult at all. Try pulling up a browser and in the search bar type:
192.168.1.1
Hit enter, and you should see your router's Admin page. If you've never setup a password, try using "admin" for the user name and "admin" for the password. These are generic on most routers. Then, look for something that will let you assign the static IP address to your Apex. This will be different on all routers, but a quick search for your specific router should guide you through it.

I am not cool enough for Apex gear, but I recently setup a Robo-Tank controller, and it was flaky after power outages, but once I set a static IP for the controller, it's been solid ever since.

Some routers will call this address reservation, it will be in the DHCP section, you will also need an IP, i like to use the .1xx range for reserved addresses because it doesnt overlap the likely number of DHCP addresses assigned, not that it matters if you have it reserved. Once you pull that section up, it should have a list of connected devices, most will have a name or manufacturer associated with the 'MAC' which will look like xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx, and is how the router identifies which device is which when handing out ips.

This will make sure that when your apext connects to your router, it will always have the same ip. Note, this is the private side of your network, and any ip you assign there is not going to be routable outside of your network. The 'static ip' that some are talking about is assigned from your service privider. To get that ip statically assigned to you from them it is usually an additional monthly fee, and then for you apex to be able to use it, you would want to port forward it. If you bridge it, all the other devices attached to your network will probably stop working. Bridging just takes the 'router' out of your router and it will just pass whatever straight through. Home devices aren't usually set up to accommodate that though and i highly doubt that is what you need.
I would think more you need to hard cable it and it is more an issue with the wifi connection, although if you really wanted to you could reserve it an ip first for fun, but that is unlikely your issue.
 
I may have to dig in with att. We Got upgraded to att fiber a few months ago. No connection issues until a power outage a few days ago. I can unplug the apex and it will reconnect but usually loses a module when I do that. The connection has only been lasting about 24 hours.
I had same issue when i switched from comcast to atnt. The apex would crash my network every few mins then disconnect. Ip needed to be reconfigured on the apex. Was a mess. Good thing for my IT guy @CoralFragZ
 
Most routers still use DHCP (DYNAMIC Host Configuration Protocol) to assign IP's to devices that are hard wired. Unless you set the router to assign the Apex a static IP every time the Apex connects, it won't matter if it's WIFI or hard wired.

I have a student who is a huge computer guru. I may see if he can help me with the process.

And will probably take me 4 hours to do haha. And probably still won’t fix the issue.
I guess when I was talking about a bridge I meant something like a gaming adapter that would receive the WiFi connection but connect to the apex via a cable.
 
Step one! I actually got logged into my router but I cannot tell which device that is connected is actually the apex.
When you log into the router settings your router should have the MAC Address of the devices connected and IP Address. The MAC Address should be on the label on the bottom of any connected devices, You can also look up a mac address on the internet search, it will give you the manufacturer of that MAC Address.
 
Based on the IP address and the MAC address my router is listing my apex as IEEE Registration Authority.
That's the standards authority, is there a label on the apex itself with a mac address. ?

If not it should show on the apex software when you connect

So that is the IP address of the apex, sorry what are you trying to find? I thought you wanted to know what IP address the DHCP was assigning the apex?
 
I found what the IP address was assigned to the APEX via fusion. I was just unclear before I found it which device was actually the apex based on the names in the list that the router gave to me.
 
It depends on your router. With Spectrum/Comcast you use their app and find the device. Then set that to a reserved IP address. Then in the Apex you go into the dashboard by wiring the device and setting that IP address. Or you can do it with a display module. It is why I keep a display handy.

For your information the internet of things (like remote access) should not require a static IP address on the WAN. The device (apex) should connect direct through your router to the apex device companies server. That way they can talk to each other.

I set the IP via my router. My fusion was still connected vie the previous IP address. I turned off the DHCP and it allowed me to enter the new dedicated IP. Then rebooted and everything connected to the new dedicated IP address will leaving the DHCP off cause issues?
