welcome to the sps club. buy cal, alk/dkh, test kits and mag test kits if you have extra cash or see problems,
then does/ water changes till you cal is at 420-450. dkh is 9-11. mag 1300-1500
if you dont have suff to dose get a two part that has mag in it
part "A" for cal
part "B" for alk/dkh
start mid way in your tank and work him up till he is at the top or till he starts bleaching

if any sps gurus wanna word what i said better plz step in

Great info posted from the other guys. I guess it all depends on how many other corals and what kind you want to add

I think you said it well, lizardfish. Testing is very important when keeping SPS. Along with Ca, Alk, and Mg, you should also test your nitrates and phosphates. For someone with a small population of SPS corals, dosing of a two part solution could easily maintain your Ca and Alk demand. I'm not sure what LFS is in Howell, but we have Kees Aquarium in Shelby Twp. You could head up there for some test kits and two part... Or even better, support a R2R sponsor.

On another note, you want to ensure that your new SPS coral has strong indirect water flow. With the proper water params, good flow, lighting, and feeding, you will a very health SPS specimen.

Just a quick edit: Test first. If you are not able to keep you Ca and Alk where they need to be, then you will need dose the two part.

Warmest Regards,
James

I've heard of fish doctors, but have never made my way over to that side of town. Sounds like your lighting and nutrient export are sufficient. Now you just have to ensure your nutrients are low (phates and trates) and your Ca, Alk, and Mg are in check.

Good Luck,
James
