HELP! Waterbox Leaking

Ugh, as the title reads, it looks like my Waterbox 20 is leaking from somewhere as I've found water seeping through the bottom of the tank onto the stand and floor. It has to be a small leak wherever it's at, because it takes some time for the water to trickle out from under the tank after I've wept it clean with a towel, but I'm going to need to come up with a fix in a hurry. Provided I find a reasonably priced empty cube, am I able to pour new sand, and transfer everything into the new tank instantaneously without causing harm to any of the fish or corals? I would assume I can, but wanted to make sure the new sand bed isn't going to require me to re-cycle the new tank before transferring everything into it. Going to miss that GSP wall on the old cube, as I'm not sure how I'm going to get that to transfer.

Your good bacteria is in the rocks. Buy your sand and rinse it well to get the silt out of it. Don’t waste money on wet sand in a bag.

Yes, transfer OK.
It will disrupt the system slightly, but recover fast.
I removed half the water and moved the old one to the side, new tank in place, new sand, water, everyone else.
Good luck….

btw…..seems like a growing trend this tank leak thing……

Are you sure its the tank that is leaking? Water leaks are funny; they aren't necessarily where you find water.

I have a different opinion than above, absolutely go with new sand. It's not worth the potential headache, it's like $20 and your rocks should be able to support life until your sand gets populated with bacteria.

Funny you should mention that. I was thinking it sounds more like a Red Sea tank.

It a seam right, not a fitting?

Sand houses a ton of your processors so me, I’m going to want to keep them.

I rinse sand in tank water and 2/3rds goes back in 1/3rd new……

I bought the tank second-hand from another reefer 4 years ago with a few microscopic scratches on it. I noticed the water when I left for work this morning, cleaned it up, and my wife called to tell me it was back and worsening. Will give it a thorough evaluation when I get home, but I can't think of what else it could be other than a leak. Checked the powerheads and ATO levels before I left. Was going to swing by an LFS to purchase a bag of CaribSea Fiji Pink live sand on the way home from work and I found a guy selling a brand new Waterbox 20 down the street from me in case I need it. Does that CaribSea sand also need rinsing? From what I recall it comes in a wet bag.

I never rinse it, it'll just be cloudy for a few hours.

You should be able to to scrape the gsp of the back wall and it should come off in one big mat and you can glue to your new glass

No rinsing, but just be careful when adding water as I’m sure you know.

Strange a Waterbox would be leaking, have you checked the skimmer? Any chance the ATO is splashing out when it fills?

I always rinse new sand live or not. It just makes to big of a mess if not rinsed. If you have sand sifting fish it's a non stop cloudy tank. Been there done that.

***Update*** Disaster averted. Here's what it looked like when I got home. I have a Tunze Nanostream in the rear left corner of the tank pointed straight up for flow, and during yesterday's water change I must have slightly over-filled the tank. Water was trickling down from that top left corner and collecting at the front of the tank. Cleaned it up, moved the Tunze slightly down and took a little water out. Will keep an eye on it but that should take care of things. Whew! Thanks for all the quick replies! Love this community of enthusiasts

Just an FYI though the dt is a fixed amount of water any extra water you would put in would end up in the back chambers

Although sure that some failures have happened, I had never heard of a waterbox leaking so glad it appears to be something else. Red Sea seems to have the corner of the leaking market covered quite well! Good luck.
