Hello everyone.

I am in the process of gathering equipment etc for a new 65 gal. I have an Eshopps overflow box on an existing 46 gal bow front that I want to use with the 65 gal.

I use a "gurggle buster" on the Eshopps but it is still a little noisy and get clogged up with every water change / plant trim/dead leaves.

Can anyone recommend a solution? Ideally I would like to go the Herbie or Bean Amimal route.

The new tank is not drilled and so would like to use the Eshopps overflow box with modifications.

thanks in advance for any help

The majority of these overflow boxes really don’t work as intended when you put a valve on any of the drains…

Best bet would be drilling for an external overflow if you want a silent system that doesn’t have to have the display water level monitored to prevent it overflowing!

Noise indicates you may be running too much flow through it. Try throttling your pump back until the noise stops.

Keeping things out of the drain will always be crucial – sounds like you could need a modification to the maintenance routine and/or the drain to help assure this.

I modified my Eshopps external box to a herbie (added in a coupling and another 2" or so of PVC pipe). Throttled the main drain, worked great for years. Just make sure you have enough height difference between main and emergency overflow, and that the box is sized to handle as much flow as you need from just one drain, and you can get it to run nicely
