Hi everyone!

For the past 20 something years, a reef aquarium has been high on my bucket list. My "happy place" is submerged under the waves of Lahaina's Black Rock, so why not bring a piece of it back home to NJ? Especially after shoveling 2' of snow in single digits . . . After years of everyone telling me not to do this, a few weeks back I decide to take the plunge, and purchased one of the sale Maxspect LS-060s (arrived) and also a Waterbox Marine X 110.4 Plus editions (forthcoming). For both, I plan to plumb AWC and ATO to a shared freshwater and saltwater reservoir in my basement. Bought a RO/DI system, pump, Brutes, and peristaltic pumps. More on this later . . .

This forum has been a valuable resource for quite some time, and I'll admit, no matter how much I read through the wealth of knowledge, I still have many questions that I hope the community will support, even if as I suspect, they've been answered a million times. As suggested, I plan to open a "build thread" separately, but figured I would start with my initial questions here (unless it's against forum etiquette). Thanks in advance!

1.) With the open concept first floor, I don't really have many options. Accordingly, I plan to place the Maxspect where it currently sits. I know it's next to a window, but if I keep the shades closed will that be an issue? Should I switch to blackout shades? Also, figured I'm best not butting it into the corner of that header wall, so I have it pulled 6" or so. Is that the right call? The larger Waterbox will replace the credenza in front of the stairs (identical width).

(Surprised the dogs aren't scaring the cats away . . .)

2.) First time aquascape. For scale, the glass door cabinet sits about 1" below the top of the glass. Good/bad/ugly, what's your feedback?

Welcome!!

I love the full size Vader, I have a 3 1/2 foot one that talks to me when I walk by in my game room. 😁

I really like the aquascape. Lots of tunnels and arches, looks great!

Much appreciated. If there’s anything I should change on the rock, please note I’m happy to accept constructive criticism.

The Vader was only supposed to be temporary but the 4 year old enjoys his company. Should have prefaced that he will probably navigate to the basement to oversee RO/DI responsibilities in the near future.
