High and low range Hanna Nitrate tester

the HR is the Pinto of the testing world, even Hanna calls it Junk. Since I keep no3 at ocean levels using the HR would be like “peeing in the wind”….

I don’t even know what to say to that, except that I heard that Hanna calls the LR their Rube Goldberg
Masterpiece.

Fortunately, it’s unsuited to my needs anyway, and the HR works great.

Interesting. It matches my ms test monthly with in a couple points. I should let the folks at Hanna have my Mastertronic, that is, if they really want to see junk :)

The HR or High Range??? - first time I hear this. Did you mean the LR?

The same here - Hanna Marine Master HR and OCEAMO tests 3 times a year

Hannas result in ppb converted to mg/L by multiply the result in ppm with 1.024

I would say that this "junk" is good enough for me. Note that I am mostly in the same range there the LR should be used - still rather good result from Hanna HR

My NO3 during last year - Hanna HR ppb

My Hanna and my Oceamo would look similar. Now, if I added a 3rd line to chart, it would be for my Mastertronic. The Mastertronic’s line, per your graph’s scale, would reside somewhere near Beijing.

Thanks,
Chris

My Hanna LR vs ICP: same result and what Hanna themselves says about HR vs LR. Is this F2F or R2R….

“The HI782 was designed to quickly and easily measure nitrate levels for aquarists with higher-than-average nutrient levels. This includes saltwater aquariums that are fish-only or have corals that can tolerate elevated levels of nitrate at 30 ppm or more.

Very low levels of nitrate are critical for many saltwater reef aquariums, as nitrate can cause damage and possible death to certain delicate corals and invertebrates. For this reason, the HI781 offers unmatched precision in the measurement of very low levels of nitrate (0.00 to 5.00 ppm)”

Which type of Mastertronic - the old or the new "essential"?

Dang, that's some low nitrates!

More than enough….

I've always been on the other end of the spectrum....battling 40-50 PPM. I started going down recently with few changes in filtration but you're at an extremely low point. I don't think my softies would enjoy that.

That said, tanks look great. Carry on.

Organisms need N, not nitrate. Since we have no ready way to gauge the bioavailability of other sources of N (such as ammonia and urea), it is complicated to extrapolate the minimum necessary nitrate level from one tank to another.

Understood.
