Develop another hobby and also look at your bank statements as your money grows and you will no longer miss it

I’ve been in and out of this hobby so many times. Right now I’m helping two people who are new to the hobby get there tanks up and running.

start small... take a few bookmarks out of your web browsers, log out of your accounts, just do thing that make it more of an inconvenience to "read about reefing." If you are subscribed to reefing videos on youtube, you can make an alternate account and just swap to that one instead. Anything that limits your exposure... I feel your pain... but I tell myself that once my reef tank is "set" I will be able to stop obsessing over my QT corals and adding new corals etc, and just sit back and enjoy it. It sucks to have a tank with only a few frags, but that's how it is to maintain patience...

My son is 15 months now and there was not a chance I was going to tear down my tank. (I did however give up my fishing boat which was my second favorite hobby) But, i knew i was going to be spending more of my time at the house and i needed something to do. What i do and i understand if it's crazy, but i wake up 2 hrs before everyone else in the house, so i can get my daily fill of the hobby. Whether that's doing tank maintenance, or research or buying corals. It helps that i keep the tank in the living room so that i may enjoy it from the couch. also, my son LOVES to look at the fish. Like some are saying, you don't have to go big, Nano's can be fairly inexpensive and you can let it grow out into a fairly nice tank with all the time your not messing with it.

you don't have to go crazy expensive. 40 breeder with soft corals. 32 bio cube. There's all kinds of options. If you still have all of your equipment its even cheeper. Just go smaller.

If you don't have a hobby or some other interest you will hate life. Been there done that. Before sw it was fresh water and basketball. Now its sw, fw, basketball.

Everyone has a reason for starting this hobby, curiosity is probably a big one, but then it gets you, you feel a tremendous responsibility to the life you are now in charge of and confined to the little ocean you try to make them thrive in. It is hard to quit, not as bad when you pretty much don't have a choice. The one thing you don't want to do is let it become an obsession where it does affect relationships, finances or the enjoyment of other things. Family (Spouse and Children), life priorities and goals should always be the #1 consideration before engaging in any hobby (hate calling something that involves living things a hobby, we need a better word). Steps off soapbox......

I have a 1300 and 300 gallon multi tank system, but lately all I think about is 10 gallon Nano I setup a few months ago. Sometimes less is more, to me its even cooler on the small scale, and way easier, I'm not finding that bigger is more stable thing to be true, just bigger problems.

If you realize how rediculous the costs are for aquarium things you dont need but want, youll push this hobby far out of your mind. 800$ for a Kessil ap700? 1000$ for an apex? Just make it unattractive thats all.

Yea and i hate millenials.. The majority of them are insaine.. and i hate to be in that bracket of looney toons.

Im also near the outer edge of being a millenial.. the majority of the ppl im talking about are in the mid to early 20s
